Question: I have noticed my ancestors names vary from Peelen to Peele. Does anyone know if the missing "n" has any significance.
Gr Grand Father - Johannes Peele born 1862 IJsselstein.
Gr Gr Grand Father - Evert Peelen born 1813 Houten.
Gr Gr Gr Grand Father - Paulus Peele born abt 1778 Groessen.
Gr Gr Gr Gr Grand Father - Johannis Peelen unknown birth info.

Note: When my Gr Grand Father arrived to the USA in 1893 his name became Peeler.

No it is just a variation to be expected they both mean son of Peel or Peregrinus which would be a more formal name. I would not expect, but there are always exceptions the name Peele or Peelen, to be a true last name before 1811.

Is this what you found in the records, or did you take this information from another tree?

Paulus was born in 1782

The entry isn't in Dutch but Latin as was the custom for Roman Catholic records:

Many of that part of Holland didn't have true last names and I would expect the father of Paulus to be Johannis (or Jan "John") son of Peel or Peregrinus. Very likley we are looking for Johannis' father's first name to be Peel, but we don't really know the last name. Caeltjes, or Kaeltjes could be a true last name.

I have a very strong suspicion that this is the marriage entry in the Roman Catholic marriage book of Groessen. My Latin is not that good, maybe someone else can make it out. There seems to be more information there.

Thank you for all the help you have given me. I have located my Gr Grandfathers info on the Genlias website. For a long time my family thought it was a mistake that his son Evert Johannes was spelled Peele on his grave marker.
