Re: Guanajuato,Mexico Raya family please reply
I have just started searching for relatives. My Father, Grandmother, Great Grandmother I know for sure lived in Cupareo, Guanajuato. Fathers birth name is Baltazar Villagomez, Grandmothers birth name was Maura Ponce, Great grandmother was Petra Ponce.
Petra Ponce's parents were Pedro Ponce and Luisa Raya.
Luisa Raya's parents were Jose Raya and Socorro Lopez.
Not sure if these are the same Raya's from Cupareo. Petra was born in 1895. And her mother Luisa Raya was born in 1871.
I do not know if Luisa Raya had any siblings. I also do not have any information prior to Jose Raya.

Re: Guanajuato,Mexico Raya family please reply
I've recently begun my search as well. So far , I know that my grandfather, Gaspar Raya's dad, Senon Raya was from Guanajuato, Mexico. He was a"full blooded Indian". (Sometime around 1900) his family migrated to Texas and ended up in Brawley, Ca in Imperial Valley.
I hear Senon Raya was from a town in Guanajuato called Penicuato, but I can't find this place on a map??
What's everyone's goal with searching for Raya roots?I'm searching for the generation that brought the name Raya from the continents east of the Atlantic ocean.

My father's grandmother was named Carmen Raya but I don't know where she was born. I know that she lived in Michoacan at the age of 26 because she was married to my great grandfather Domingo Ramos. The only other Raya I see on the 1930 Census was named Rufina and she was about 15 in 1930.
