Hello. I am looking for a George Jakes, who is African American who came to Missouri before 1880. He is my husband's gg grandfather, who married Kate Hawkins in 1882 in Saline County. I have two George Jakes listed in Saline County Missouri in the 1880 census, one who is 21 yrs old and one who is 20 yrs old and living with his mother, Louisa Jakes, age 46. She is listed as being born in Virginia as are both parents of each George Jakes. Any help or information that you have would be appreciated. Thank you. Kay Taylor

I don't know if this will help any but if you know if George had any sisters this could help narrow them down. I have attached a snip of the census image for 1900 Saline MO Cambridge TWP pg 97 on it is a Louisa Jakes listed as a Mother in law which would make her the mother of the wife, Emma.

Marie, thank you! I have come across Louisa before now, and think she IS George's mom, but unable to actually tie her in....I have her birth and death dates, and where she is buried. She did live in the area I have been looking in and hopefully can get the tie in soon. This does give me another name to work with, AND one of George and Kate's children was also an Emma (maybe named for her aunt??) who married Louis Williams. They were my husbands g-grandparents. George and Kate's other children that I have come across are George, Gilbert, Preston, Lula and Frank. Again, thanks!
