Hello. My maiden name is Cymbal. My father was Theodore who was born in New York but raised near Lvov, Ukraine. He was born in 1912. His father was William and was from the Lvov area. Both settled in Detroit area. We have relatives there still in Lvov. Does anyone know anything about the origin of this name?
|
My Great grandfather was Alex Cymbal, in the US spelled Symbol or Symbal. He was born in 1884, I believe in Skalat, near Ternopil, now in Ukraine. I do not know a lot about that. He came to the US in 1903, later sent for and married Kathryn Kucharski, also from Skalat.
I am told the name is perhaps related to the instrument, the cymbal.
