Hi Mandy,
Below is the 1851 census entry for the McCourt family and the 1881 census for the McShane's (name has been transcribed incorrectly as McThorne, but definitely should be McShane). Also, a marriage entry and the births of the McShane children from the LDS website, and a mention of the death of Annie McShane taken from the local newspaper index.
It appears that James McShane died sometime between 1876 and 1881, although there wasn't a notice in the newspaper. If you get a copy of either James and Annie's marriage registration or James' death registration, his parents name should be listed (probably a better chance with the marriage registration since he would have given the information). You can search for births, marriages and deaths and view the actual registrations online at Scotland's People -
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/. It's a pay per view site, but well worth the cost.
On the 1881 census there were only two other McShane families both living in the same general area of Wigtonshire (Owen - b1823, Ireland, living Kirkinner / Michael, b1829, Ireland, living Whithorn).
Hope this helps a bit.
Regards,
Charlene Dunbar
