Hi Barb, my grandfather came from Schull in County Cork he was Richard Salter the son of Robert Salter and Margaret Jagoe. I have just recently been to Ireland and met William Salter who lives in Castletownshend, he is the son of my gfathers brother William. I have gathered quite a bit of info but always search for more.
If you think we have a link email me on mnorrish@bigpond.net

My GG Grandfather Robert Salter (1815 - 1876) and his wife Jane SWEETMAN (1823-1897) were from Co Cork and Skibbereen area and immigrated to the US in 1846 and settled in Wisconsin. Let me know if this sounds like a match.

Sorry to take so long in replying Barb, no, don't know any connecting line here although I am sure if we could go back far enough their would be a link. Your family would appear to be Catholic and mine were Methodist. The father of my Robert was Michael Salter and his wife was Elizabeth Copithorne.

I can go back to Michael and Elizabeth Salter (nee Copithorne) then through Robert to my grandfather Richard who came to Australia around 1910. I only have the names John and Catherine Salter as Michael's children, most likely more that I cannot trace.

Hi Cheryl - I have 20 Michael Salter's and plenty of Copithorne's, but none marrying each other. We must have a link somewhere. Do you have some dates for Salter's, or parents for Micheal and Robert?

Hi Sharon
The information I have from Jim Allen re: Copithorne family tells me that Michael Salter married Elizabeth in 1835. Know nothing more. Elizabeth's parents were Richard and Mary ? they lived at Corravoley near Skibbereen. Their children I know of were John b 1836, Catherine b 1841, and my ggrandfather,
Robert b 1846 m Margaret Jagoe, their children were Catherine, Elizabeth, Margaret b1862, Richard (my grandfather) b1884, May (Mary) and William b1886 (wins) Hester A b1889 Robert b1890, Ursula b1892. The family game from the district of Gurteenroe and the name of their farm was Ratravane according to a letter from a relative some years ago.
I do know that Canon George Salter of the Church of Ireland is a son my gfathers brother William.
As you say, there must be a link somewhere!!!!! Don't have anything more I can add so "Happy hunting".
