Suggest that if you don't have the historical book, The Hands of Time, that you can now view its contents on-line at:
http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=3613You will obtain a lot of genealogy info about the first Polish and Ukrainian settlers who took up land grants in the Buchanan District. The only item that this website does not include is the 1913 Landowners map covering Townships 31, 32 and 33 and Ranges 4, 5 & 6.
There is a good chance that your Shabbits ancestors and my wife's grandfather, Dan Zaplitney, were part of the first homesteaders who constructed the Ukrainian Catholic Church located a couple of miles north of Tiny, Sask. See. p. 136.
Andrew Shabits homesteaded was at SE Sec 32, TP 31, R 4. If he went north 1/4 section from his home and turned left on the dirt road for 6 quarter sections (= 1 mile), he would be in front of the said church. If he continued pass the church for the rest of that quarter section and turned right, he would be at Dan Zaplitney's farm on the left.
At the said site, if you go to page 656-661, you can read about the Shabits (only one "b" in the surname). Andrew Shabit's photo is on p.656.
In my genealogy data base, I have Edmund Genoway marrying Elsie Ternowski, the daughter of Ludwig and Catherine Ternowski. My wife's grandfather, Dan Zaplitney, married Julia Ternowski in 1910.....she is the sister of Ludwig.....their father was Anton & Annie Ternowski.
Hope this is of some help for you.
