Looking for anyone who was ever in Nazareth House, Cape Town, South Africa at any time, but particularly those who were there during 1940's to 1960.

Many children were dumped there and I was one of them. I would like you to contact me if you were one of those "unfortunates".

Hello Sharon, i am writng to you to ask if you know of any support networks for people like yourself who grw up in RSA orphanages.
We are a network for anyone who grew up in "Care". and recently a bloke who lives in Australia , but grew up in South African Homes has joined our network.

Do you know of any support networks?? you are welcome to join we have members who live overseas as well.

Thanks for your reply. I do know about CLAN but did not join because my Childrens' Home was in South Africa. CLAN only seemed to cater for Australian States.

It took some years before I finally received a half page of my so called records from NH in Cape Town, detailing the dates I arrived and left that awful place. They finally acknowledged that I WAS there after telling me that there were no records of me ever being there. The years are still not correct and I have given up because they told me that there are NO other records of anything relating to me and I know that it is a total lie. So typical !!!!!

I have never sought counselling as I have always coped with whatever life threw at me. Unfortunately, I don't know of any support groups except the websites relating to other Nazareth Houses around the world. I think that some "victims" find solace in discussing their stories with others on the internet but it's not my idea of counselling etc.

I am merely trying to make contact with anyone who was at Nazareth House in Cape Town, South Africa during the years that I was there, for a number of reasons.

I have joined a number of Children's Homes Groups on the internet but have yet to find one person who was with me in Cape Town. However, I did find one friend who was with me, through one of my Genealogy message boards. That was very exciting.

I was in Nazereth House for a period of two weeks, back in 1956. I was only two at the time, but do recall the horrible experience as though it was yesterday. My sisters, who are twins were there a bit longer (I think!). I was taken from there by my aunt who I lived with till I was 5 then went to live with my grandparents. Both my parents have passed away now, but have never given a reason for us being there, something that haunts me still. Were you given a reason by the nuns as to why you were there, if so I would love to contact them to see if they have reason for me.

Yes, unfortunatley I was one of the unlucky ones dumped at Nazareth House from 1962 to 1967.

The effects of the nuns abuse is still affecting me today!! Thinking seriously about writing a book to share my deepseated, emotional and physical scars.
