Looking for an ancestor Nettie Mae Wideman, died 1903 in Bonne Terre MO. Dead end. What other names besides Jeanette or Anette would Nettie have stood for?

my greatgrandmother's first name was "unity", and her nickname was nettie. i have not done any research on the name, and it would be interesting to learn about other names for nettie, too. hope this will help. take care.

Nettie might not be short for anything; that may just be her name. My aunt's middle name is Nettie.

I have a Nettie who is also known as Nessa.

Just thought I'd add that my brother's sister-in-law is called Nettie.
It's no a shorting or contraction for an alternative given name. Her parents were from the Netherlands and it may just be a more common given name there than in English speaking countries.
