Obit:

Samuel Right Brookshire was born in Phelps County on 2/27 1875, son of the late Samuel A and Mary Brookshire. Following a lingering illness he passed away in Rolla Friday monring, 11/30 1951. Being 76 years, 9 months and 3 days of age. Mr. Brookshire was born and reared in this vicinity and was a member and last of a pioneer family. He also operated a farm at Beulah for a number of years and resided in this county all of his life. On Dec. 22 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Sallie A Finder and 11 children were born to them. Mrs. Brookshire passed away in 1937 and four children, three daughters and one son passed away in infancy. Also four grandchildren are deceased. Surviving are two sons, Clyde of Rolla and Clarence of Richamond, CA; and 5 dau; Mrs. Howard Hedley and Mrs. Clarence Alvey both of St. Louis, Mrs. Frank biddle of Eugene, MO, Mrs. Henry Pohle of Richmond, CA and Mrs. Walter Whitson of Rolla. Also there are 18 grandchildren , 12 greatgrandchildren and a number of other relatives. Mr. Brookshire united with the Methodist church many years ago. He was a devout Christian and always deeply devoted to his family and friends. Funeral rites were from the Rhea Church at 2:30 pm Sunday, December 2. Elder Walter L. Bradford and Rev. N. M. Lovell, officiating. Burial was in Rhea Cemetery under direction of Null and Sons Funeral Home. Music Church choir. Pallbearers; Bill Frederick, Lee Cleveland, Gene Bittle, Vernon Alvey, Wilbert Harris, Elbert Whitson, Ray Paul and Henry Riley"

I cannot determine the link of this gentlemen to my family and have the original obit cut out of the paper (unknown). Please contact me if you want it.!

This is my greatgrandfathers name but the children are wrong and the dates are wrong. But it has to be some relation.

I have a Elizabeth A. REAGAN b:16 Jan 1867; d: 2 Jan 1935; m: 24 Nov 1886 to Samuel BROOKSHIRE. They had 8 ch: Stella, Marcia, Mattie, Otie, Hildred, Mildred and twins Jessie and Grace. Have info on her family only. Phelphs Co., MO. However, if you are firm on Sam's birth this doesn't work.

The dates may be wrong. There are two Samuel R. Brookshire's. The one you are describing is my grreat grand-father. My grandmother was Mattie Susan Brookshire Whitaker. My father was Archie Whitaker.

This is an old post, so you might already have the info you want. If not, please contact me, and perhaps we can decide if, or where you fit. I am fairly familiar with the Phelps County Brookshire family research.

I don't need a copy of the obit, but I see that it says Samuel Right (b 1875) was the son of Samuel Andrews and Mary, which is untrue as far as Mary being his mother. Samuel Andrews Brookshire married Sarah Rachel Hutchinson on 09 Dec 1969 in Maries County, Missouri (Adjacent to Phelps County). Rachel was still living in 1880 and their children then were: Lucy 9, Joseph 7, Right 5, (I think the enumerator spelled it Wright, which is wrong. Pardon the pun.), and Minerva, age 1. This is the Minerva Pennington in this Brookshire h/h in 1900.

Samuel Andrews Brookshire married Mary (Grinder/Ginder/Kinder} on 13 Oct 1895 in Phelps County, Missouri, so not Samuel R's mother.

Prior to his marriage to Rachel Hutchinson in 1869, he had been married to M E (not sure of surname). I found a record of divorce for S A Brookshire and M E Brookshire in Phelps County, Missouri, which was "Granted Wed. Nov 21, 1867, he the innocent party, defendant comes not, but makes default."

In some notes I found later, not readily accessible, I believe there was a child, which died.

I'm looking for the parents of Sarah (Hutchison) Brookshire. Their names are Joseph & Rachel Hutchison. I found a note that said they may have been living with thier daughter at the time of their death & be buried in the same cemetery as Sarah. Would you know what cemetery Sarah is in and if there is a Joseph & Rachel there also.
