I have been reserching my family tree for a few years now and I have reached a road block. My grandfather is Adam William Hollar of Vilas who recently passed away. His father was Grover Cleveland Hollar, son of William Thomas Hollar(s). Here is where I am stuck. He is shown as the son of "Polly" Hollar and Tho Hodge on his death certificate. William was born July 12, 1841. Died on February 22, 1929 and is buried in Valle Crucis. He was also listed in the 1850 census at the age of 9 in the house hold of Jacob Townsend along with a David Hollar age 14. But the relationship to David and the Townsends I am clueless about. I also have no leads on "Polly" Hollar. Our family is not listed in the Watauga Co. histories that I have seen. And the destruction of the records at the court house by the fire at the turn of the century have left me with out leads. So if you have any information on a "Polly" Hollar or a relationship to David or the Jacob Townsend family please contact me.

In reference to this entry in Watuaga Co. NC are your Hollars related to the Hollars of MO and TN? I am specifically looking for Amos Milton Hollars Sr. son of Oliver Lee Hollars who is the son of John Alexander (Jack) Hollars who is the son of John Wesley Hollers of MO. born 1834. Amos Milton Hollars Sr. had 6 brothers and sisters John, George, Lester, Henry (Hollis) Betty, Ethel. He married 2x. 1st wife Minnie Lou Burns and 2nd wife Allie Smith. My records show Jacobs daughter Elizabeth as being married to a Peter Hollar. I am assuming that the two boys were their children. They may have died and the grandfather was taking care of them.

I do recall finding some mention of the Townsend name in the National Archives census records associated with the Hollars name, but could not determine the relationships. Are we in the same tree?

Amos, I don't have any direct information on "Polly" Hollar, David Hollar and Jacob Townsend. What I do have is two marriages between the Hollar family and the Townsends.
1. Peter Holler(Hollar) m. Elizabeth Townsend 3 Dec 1830.
2. Nancy Holler(Hollar) m. Andrew Townsend 21 Oct 1832.

These marriages took place in eith Tryon or Lincoln county N.C.

I also have several Hollars/Townsend marriages. I'd love to know more about the Hollars mentioned below:

- Forest Hollars Townsend married Dorothy Hollars about 1920 in Watauga. Would like to know more about Dorothy.

- Daniel Layfayette Townsend married Linda Hollars in 1895 in Watauga. I have a good deal of info on this family,happy to share.

- Andrew Townsend married Nancy Hollars in 1832 in Lincoln County.Her parents were Andrew Hollars and Mary Bollick. Would love more info on Andrew and Mary.
