I am looking for the birth of Lucien COTE
son of Auguste COTE and Henriette FILLION, b. 1907-1908

I found this in Mass Vital Records online:

Cote Jos. Lucien E. Theobold Salem 1907 566 684 Birth
Cote Lucien Lawrence 1908 574 557 Birth

Is he one of them???

Thank you.

I checked Mass. Vital Records from 1905 to 1910 for births of Lucien Cote. There were several, but none had the parents which you mentioned. Sorry. Priscilla

I have to caveat what follows as being based on my understanding having looked at records. I'm not sure the rules were very specific.

It's not uncommon to find records of children that were not yet named. Since the sex is recorded, the index contains either (male) or (female) for the firstname. If the child was stillborn, the birth record usually lists that. If the child lived at birth and then died shortly after, a separate death entry would be registered.

Since a record for Lucien was not found,I decided to look for a male child born to the couple. I stopped at the first match, and did not bother to search the death index.

If you don't believe this to be him, then I or others can look further, but would probably need more information.

Greetings

Try search useing Joseph. It wasa a french-canadian practice to baptise all males Joseph with whatever name they would use after i.e. Joseph Pierre, females used Marie. I've found relitives this way.

The 1911 Census of Quebec lists Lucien as born in Oct 1907 in Quebec, but I suspect that the (male) Cote might be him given the Oct 13, 1907 birth date.

I did not find a baptism record in Canada for him, so perhaps he was baptized in Fall River. You could try contacting the Fall River Diocesan Archives to see if they can help. Since you have the address from the record, they should be able to identify the local parish.
