Searching for members of Neil Simonds family. He was born 1918 in Greene Co. Illinois to Earl and Alice (Hutchens)Simonds. Has a younger sister by 2 years, Margaret.
His mother died in 1924 and presumably his father remarried.
Neil died Jan 1964 in Colorado but lived in Twin Falls for sure because have high school picture of his son, Grant, from there. He served in WWII.

Hi,

I couldn't find the family in a 1930 Census which is the most recent one available to the public. Finding information about people after 1930 is much more difficult.

In 1938 Neil E. Simonds, student, rooms @ 2517-12th, Boulder, CO>
Also in 1938 Earl P. Simonds (Minnie E), mechanic Boulderado Motors, home 2517-12th.
Mrs. Minnie E. Simonds, stenographer Natl State Bank, rooms 2517-12th. Source: Polk's Boulder Co., Colorado City Directory, www.ancestry.com.

On 1 June 1942 a Neil E. Simonds b. 1918, IL enlisted in the US Army in Houston, Harris Co., TX. Sihgle without dependents.

In 1943 Earl P (Minnie E) mechanic Forrest's Repair Service, home 709 University Ave, Boulder.
Margt A. student, U ov C, rooms 709 University Ave.
Minnie E. Mrs., teller Natl State Bank, home 709 Univ. Ave. Source: Polk's Boulder Co., CO City Drectory, www.ancestry.com.

A Minnie Simonds b. 3 June 1893, Last Residence=Boulder, Boulder Co., CO, 80302, d=Feb 1980, Last Benefit Mailed to:=Boulder, Boulder Co., CO, 80306. Her soc. sec. # was assigned in CO before 1951. Source: Social Security Death Index, www.ancestry.com.

I'd pursue Minnie's obituary in Boulder CoO.

Neil Simonds, b. 15 Oct 1918, died Jan. 1964, Last Residence-=Not Specified, Last Benefit=Not Specified. His soc. sec. # was assigned in CO. Source: Social Security Benefit Index, www.rootsweb.com.

I don't know if he died in CO or ID.

There is a volunteer at RAndom Acts Genealogical Kindness who does Court House and obituary looksups. Go to www.raogk.org, read instructions, choose Idaho, choose Twin Falls Co. Successful Searching!

J,
I found your family tree online at Ancestry:
http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.aspx?pid=-884396224&...=
This type of information helps a boni fide researcher, also to prevent "lookup reports" when you already have the information or more of it. There is also another family tree on this family from "marylourkennedy", perhaps a cousin. You can access it here:

I find notice of an obituary dated 22 May 2005 of Nancy Simonds, preceded in death by her husband Neil Simonds in January 1964. A search identified the obit published in the Times-News, Twin Falls:

2 PHOTOS Nancy Simonds Our dearest mother, Nancy Nunziata Marie Mastro Simonds was born April 9, 1918, in Santeramo in Colle, Province, of Bari, Italy. She passed away on Mother's Day, May 8, 2005, of congestive heart failure after living a life of dreams that she fulfilled. She emigrated with her parents, Stella Favale and Julius Mastro, to America and Boise, Idaho, in 1920. Her father had previously been to Boise and had worked as a stone mason on such edifices as St. John's Cathedral and the Idaho State Capitol Building. Mom attended Central Grade School and graduated with highest honors from Boise High School in 1936. She married her only real love, Neil Simonds on Feb. 24, 1946, in Boise. Nancy was widowed in January of 1964 and raised her seven children, the oldest being 16 and the youngest 6 at the time of Dad's passing. Mom obtained her associate's degree from the College of Southern Idaho in 1979 and earned her bachelor's degree in English from Idaho State University cum laude in 1984. Mom loved music, art, gardening and most of all playing bridge. She traveled to many places including a trip to her birthplace with her 90-year-old mother and sister in October of 1979. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren whom she dearly loved. Family holiday gatherings filled with song and dance made her beam with pride. Nancy is survived by her sister, Anne Epeldi, Boise; and by her seven children, Grant Deborah Simonds , Boise, Julie Chuck Schwerman, Twin Falls, Alice Sternke, Boise, Gregg Julie Simonds , Park City, Utah, Laurie Alan Olmstead Simonds , Twin Falls, Debra Blackwood, Twin Falls, and Stephanie Brian Olmstead, Twin Falls. Her grandchildren are Jess and Gregg Simonds , Maren and Taylor Schwerman, Ranie Sternke, Seth, Kate, Nancy Jane and Grant Simonds , Emmy and Shelley Olmstead, Callie, Monica and Anne Blackwood and Brinya, Vanessa and Eila Olmstead. All of her grandchildren were very special to her. Nancy was preceded in death by parents, Stella and Julius Mastro and by a very special son-in-law, Dennis Blackwood. A memorial service will he held at 11 a.m. on May 28, 2005, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 371 N. Eastland Drive, Twin Falls, with Pastor Brian Thom officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the People for Pets Humane Society, P.O., Box 1163, Twin Falls, ID 83303. Arrangements are under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel of Twin Falls. You may own a million dollars But you're the poorest in the land If you don't have your beloved Mom To clasp your lonely hand. Though her smile is gone forever And her hand we cannot touch, Still we have many memories Of our Mom we loved so much, This memory is our keepsake With which we'll never part. God has her in his keeping We have her in our hearts. So you who have a mother Cherish her with care, For you'll never know the heartache Til she's no longer there.

This obit identifies her seven children. Search for them at www.zabasearch.com

Thanks so much for your help.
I have been out of genealogy for a couple months so hadn't noticed another tree with the simonds in ancestry.
Will get on that right away. Thanks again. Julie
