Duplication

It seems as though my tree keeps duplicating names. No matter how I try to clean up the duplication, the next day I notice that the problem has returned. It's very annoying.

What type of trees are you speaking of?

Ancestry Member Trees (Online)

Family Tree Maker trees (Family Tree Maker genealogy program)

Ancestry Family trees (outdated/non-supported and old genealogy program).

Actually, what I should have said is the" list of people" . Sometimes I notice a name will appear several times with the same information in the "list of people". Is that normal?

It is very normal if you are copying from other online trees.

A person should only be added once and each person added individually, not a a group (from a census family etc.)

I always check my database before entering anyone and then enter all info by hand - it is the only sure way to prevent duplicates.

I'd respectfully want to say that one should not have to follow your suggested manner of entering persons to their tree IF this software was doing the job it's supposed to do. Afterall, that is the Function of the software!

I have duplications and the support team has helped me get my online (AFT) tree back to "normal" twice now only to ONCE AGAIN have duplications.

The result is that I am now Fearful of the software: I have spent many, many hours building and working only to find out that duplications are a "known" issue. This is so frustrating.

AFT is the stand-alone Windows program, not the online tree. I'd move this post but it wouldn't make any sense without the previous messages.

You need to post under the Ancestry.com suggestions topic.
