My grandfatther emigrated from the Netherlands. He lists his home town as Bellingwolde, Holland. I think that is in the Groningen Providence. His father's name is Jon Poel and his mother's is susan Siebentee. Any information would be appreciated about this area of the Netherlands and any information about either of these families.

Dear Kathy,
I am also searching for Poels in Groningen. Though I don't believe I have run across your Jon Poel, we may still have names that link our trees. My great great grandmother was Henrietta Poel, born in Groningen on 9/20/1869 and married John Keizer. Her brothers were Klaas, Issac, Abel, Herman, Henry and a sister named Jennie. My Great great great grandfather was Jacob Poel born in 1830 in Groningen. He married Arrena Groenveld in 1859. Jacob's father was Klaas born 9/24/1799. he married Hendrikje Slager on 3/27/1828. If any of this is familiar to you, please write and maybe we can help each other! Thanks!

Dear Bruce,
It appears we are related. I can take you back one more generation and tell you that Klaas' father was Hendrik Klaas Poel and he married Anje Abels. I know nothing more about them. I "met" someone on the internet named Stan Poel who also decended from Abel. Apparently he had a son named Melle who is Stan's grandfather. He seems to know quite a bit about the Poels who came to America. His e-mail address is He tells me that he gets his information from a narrative written by Henry Nicholas Beets, a decendent of Klaas Hendricks Poel through Klaas' son Abel and his daughter Clara. He may be worth contacting. Good Luck!

Kim...I am responding to your query on 10 April 1999, under Poel. My interest is in the KONINGS and DEBOERS. My grandmother was Fannie KONING VELTMAN. Fannie was the oldest child of John KONING and Nellie TRENCK KONING. A list of their children is as follows: Fannie, Clara, Nell, Belle, Adah, John and Robert. Nellie TRENCK KONINGS' parents were Yde TRENCK and Klaasje DEBOER. Klaasjes' parents were Peter DEBOER and Nieltje [?] SCHENKENS. Do we have any common relatives? I should add that all these families resided in Holland, Michigan at one time and most are buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. I'm always looking for new family links and I look forward to hearing from anyone with a connection. Gayle

While searching for information on my surname "Bosna" I came across your search query which listed Bosna as one of the surnames. I am intrigued since my family originated in Italy but Bosna is not an Italian name. Can there be a link? Please let me know if you have any information regarding the Bosna name.
