I am seeking information on the Offergeld family of Aix La Chappell, which is now known as Aachen.

My ancestor was Amelia Offergeld, born around 1806-1811. She was born in Aachen and married Charles Kohler and lived in Dublin, Ireland, before moving to Mount Vermont in New York, USA.

Her father was an officer in Blucher's army in Prussia. I have more information on Amelia and would be very happy to share it with anyone interested. Thank you.

Added to the above, Amelia Offergeld's father was Matthias offergeld, born Prussia c 1770. He married a Susanna from Luscombe in Devon, England and had children James Lewis Offergeld, Susannah Offergeld (both born in England) and possibly a Lucy and/or a Caroline as well as Amelia Offergeld.

Aix la Chapelle (one p only) is not an old name for Aachen as far as I know. It is the French version for French speaking people. The Belgium boarder is only a few miles from the city center of Aachen. French is one of the two the official languages in Belgium.

Living not more than 45 miles from Aachen I looked at the telephone book. There are still 17 Offergeld entries. Offergeld is a quite frequent name in Germany, however.

I'm just returning from the archive in Bruehl, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, and saw that they also keep the church and civil records of Aachen there.
