My grandfather was Francisco Bonney Salazar.
He was the son of Lt. Benardo Salazar and
Rafaelita Bonney. Rafaelita had a sister who
lived in the Silver City, New Mexico area by the name of Katalena or(Kathaleen) Bonney. One brother whose name was Santiago Bonney.Rafaelita Bonney was said to be born in England in 1841. If anyone has any connection to these Bonney's, Please let me
know. My grandfather lived in Lincoln, N.M.
at the time Billy the Kid was there.
Thanks....Dcmangus

I am also looking into my Bonney connection. My great-grandmother was Blanche Bonney and I've always been told that she was Billy's niece. I'm not sure if that means niece or grandniece, so I don't know who her mother and father were. Anyone with any connections that can point to a daughter named Blanche that was born around 1895, please contact me at goliath1@netzero.net or post here.

Thanks!

I found through my research that William Bonney was not Billy's real name but just another alias that he took on after the death of his friend. His real name was Henry McCarty. You can find out all about him by visiting this web site: http://www.zianet.com/snm/kidsmom.htm
I hope this can help you out.

Terry, the names you have may bevery well related. I have a Catherine Bonney who married a Michael McCarty. they had one son. She had a half sister by the name of Mary Adeline Dunn. They had the same mother but different fathers. Catherine Bonney took Billy the Kid when he was small and raised him. He was not legally adopted by her and her second husband but used their name some.

I am hunting the family line on . I am a research analysis amd do this as a hobby for my own personal information. Any information you have would be apprecaited. Thank you

Billy the Kid--- I have always been told I also was related. As the story goes his mother was Ann Bonney never married, with a child back then, disowned poor and that is why Billy grew up mean. But I've been told that she had a brother Jarvis Bonney. Truman Bonney I think was her dad and I am kinda clueless after that all I've got is a Lydia and/or a Paula Townsen(d) is who married Truman I'm not sure.

There was a "Billy the Kid" (William H. Bonney) Thank you

that story just isn't true. i did the genealogy on billy the kid many years ago and when i got done i thought "this is dumb" he is nothing to me. i just threw it away. i sure wish now i had kept it. i descend from jarius [you call jarvis] bonney and dr. truman was his brother. they came from litchfield, ct. to ashtabula co., ohio, to fulton co., ill. and then in 1845 they started for oregon. they got sidetracked and went to california for about a year where each of the brothers lost children to disease. they then came by horse north to oregon where they settled.
the only thing i remember about this billy the kid stuff is that he descends [i believe] one generation prior to jarius and dr. truman. [don't quote me on that one] he had no kids so there is no descendents from him. the little bits and pieces i remember were his mother married a bonney and he died after their child was born. she then remarried a man i believe named mc murty or something like that. in his very young days billy went by his step-fathers name but when he got a little famous he went to the bonney name. his mother must have been so proud. of course if you have read anything on this man you know he is blamed for an awful lot he didn't do but he enjoyed the name he made for himself. i wish i could remember the book i got my start in but no can do. if i could do this anyone can. i remember it was a very small non-descript book but it gave his parents names and from there it was a breeze. happy hunting.
gary in oregon

My facts might not be total acurate and it was not bragged about with in the family but pretty close to what you've written and this was my first inquiring and it was never written down (the story) by any family member. So I am sorry if I got some of the facts right. Just was looking for family.

I am not a history major either just normal folks. Jarvis and Truman are just names I've seen in the tree and I don't have any idea where they went etc. etc. Weather William had children or not is not the issue his mother and blood father had siblings. I was told his mother was a Aunt that is as far as I've been lead to believe not biggie K
