My father, Richard Farrell Battles, lives in Gadsden. I am currently searching Etowah County online files for his ancestors. He was married to Katherine Rose CARDON and they had 10 children. His father was Robert Battles and his mother was Bessie ASHWORTH. There were 5 children from that marriage, as well as a half brother, Commodore. Any information regarding ancestry of the Battles CARDON MCSPADDEN or ASHWORTH families would be greatly appreciated.

Donna...I'm not sure...but I don't think so. Our Robert Battles was the son of Richard Battles and Rosa Hewitt. They had four children...Robert N., Arthur D., Walter M., and Minnie L. Rosa married Tom Mote after the death of Robert. I'm not real sure what cemetery Robert is buried in, but someone sent me a picture of a headstone with a photograph on it. We're not sure this is our Robert, but if you would like to contact me direct...I'd be glad to email you the photo.
We have a good deal of our information posted on the web site listed...so take a look. Will be looking forward to hearing from you,

Cathy: I have collected several Battles in my files and most of them are from the Etowah, StClair and Blount County sections of North Alabama. I have a Robert H. BATTLES b. abt 1850 and wife Susan Melinda HOPPER. He is a direct descendant of William (Noel) Battles a Vet of the Rev War. Susan is a direct descendant of Lawson HOPPER B 5 Dec 1804 and Milinda FIELDS b. 1807. They were very early settlers of Etowah County and lived in the Boxtel/Tumlin Gap area. They are buried at Sauls Cemetery. I do not have your Father listed, I do not normally list living individuals. But if you can provide Grandparents and Great Grandparents with some estimate of birth dates I am sure we can determine your ancestors. We need birth dates to separate the generations, Robert was a common name in the Battles family. I have a copy of "Noles Battles"; Our Revolutionary Ancestor, by Grace Thornton, which I recommend to anyone searching for Battles ancestors in North Alabama

I am very interest in any info you can provide. I am a decendant of Lawson Hopper. My grandfather was William Erskin Hopper, his fater was Willie Alexander Hopper, his father was Jasper L. Hopper and his father was Goulder Fields Hopper and his Lawson. Don't have all info in front of me but that is pretty close to the linage line. My mother is Martha Hopper Reeves. I have been told we are not related to Blegrove Hopper but more than like Ash Hopper. Lawson was born in 1802 Ga. This would have been Indian Territory at the time. From my research I can not find him listed as an intruder or other in that area of time. They seemed to always be in Indian Territory from what I can tell. Any help with this would be most appreciated.

I am not a direct descendant of Lawson Hopper and Malinda Fields, but I do have a number of kin that married into that family. Their daughter, Dicey Ellen Hopper married Thomas B. Nix the son of Tyre Nix and Lettice Holden. And there are other connections between the two families. Lawson and Malinda are both burried at Sauls Cemetery in Warrior River Valley section of Altoona, Etowah County. Lawsons parents are John Lawson Hopper and Sarah Hobbs. He was born abt 1773 in Virginia and died 20 April 1815 in New Orleans Louisana. My asssumption is that he was serving with General Jackson in the war of 1812, but I have not completed that research. I have Lawson born 5 Dec 1804 in Oglethoarpe County, Georgia, which was not Indian teritory at that time. He died 1880 when living at Boxtel, Etowah County, and he is buried at Sauls Cemetery. Boxtel is located on the Altoona side of the railroad tunnel through Blount Mountain, and was the train stop for persons living in Warrior River Valley, and also the Gallant and Greasy Cove areas. I have Lawson in St Clair County in 1830, in Blount County in 1850 and 1860 and Etowah County in 1870. But the area where he lived was Blount County until Etowah was formed so he may have lived in both counties without moving.
Lawsons grandparents are George Hopper Jr., I do not know his grandmother. His gg-grandparents I have as George and Catherine Hopper; born in Virginia and died in North Carolina.
I will share all the information I have with you with the understanding that the connections to my family are better sourced than some of the other families. But I will also share all the proof that I have collected. daltonn@knology.net

I've been looking in early Blount Co., AL records this week on George Hopper, Sr., d. 1836, Blount Co., AL. His wife was Hannah (LNU) Hopper. He had a daughter Pheraby Hopper, who was married to John Ratliff. There was also a son, George Hopper, Jr. whose wife was named Jemima (LNU)Hopper.

I found a query at the local museum from a lady in TX who believes there was also a son named John Hopper, but I found no indication of him in the George Hopper, Sr. estate.
