Mike McCormick, whose address is <
Brismile@aol.com>, is the Vigo County Historian. He is a fan of Stella Courtright Stimson, had tried to get her designated as an outstanding woman of Indiana history. He and I corresponded for several months about her and he sent me many printouts about her work with the poor in the early 20th Century. As a result, I wrote a biographical sketch of her which has been printed on a couple of sites. He also sent me three pages about Samuel Cary Stimson from an old history book, including a portrait. It says he was the son of Rev. William N. Stimson of Worcester, NY, a Presbyterian minister who moved to Indiana in 1835; and Mary Wilson Johnson of Cincinnati. On the same page as Samuel's portrait, there is a portrait of Robert B. Stimson. Are you directly related to Robert or to Samuel? The article says nothing about Robert, but I assume he was Samuel's brother with whom he shared a law practice, Stimson, Stimson and Higgins.
Would you like me to mail you these pages?
Judge Stimson had one son by his first marriage to Maggie C. Allen. That was Cameron. Maggie died in 1803 and Judge Stimson married my Great Aunt Stella. She bore him three children, Dorothy (who died as a child), Margaret and Stuart. I have visited Margaret in Indianapolis, and if you live near there, she might really want to meet you. She is over 100 and quite handicapped. If you are a cousin of Cameron and Stuart, you are also her cousin. I am her second cousin.
Margaret has told me more than once about Christmases she spent in Cameron's home, how huge the tree was and how gay the parties were. He taught her to drive! She loved him dearly, though they were only half/siblings. I have tape recorded her memories.
Please get in touch directly with me so I can share more information with you.
Sincerely, Eleanor K. Pelcyger
