My Great Grandmother was Martha
Batts, born 1852 in
KY. She was married to James W. Mullins of Water Valley,
Graves Co., KY. A family member said that her father was Geroldus
Batts. The 1880 census said that her father was from NC, and mother was from
KY. And, that her mother was Nancy
Johnson.
On some sites I've seen Elizabeth "Betsy"
Joyner, or Elizabeth
Knight (who's mother was
Keziah Newsome). And, in some historical paper online, Geraldus
Batts from
Edgecombe Co., NC had several illigitmate children from Ms. Joyner, but their names got changed to
Batts, later. Martha was one of them. Unless there are two different Geraldus
Batts! Another site said he was from
Wilson Co.
Can you help? Most of my Mother's family came from Water Valley,
Wingo, or
Hickman (don't know if that is County or city of
Hickman).
