Can anyone tell me where Dublin, Greenville Co., SC is/was located?
It was found in the 1860 Federal Census.

Thank you, Kenton.
My first thought was that it was Dunklin also, but there are about eleven pages and they were clearly marked:
Dublin Division, Greenville County

Quickly checking some of the names on the 1860 census, and comparing the 1860 census to the 1870 and the locations described on deeds - I came up with Durbin's Creek. In 1870, the names I checked at random and could find in 1870 Greenville County were included in Fairview Division. I wonder if in 1860 there were a post office/census division for Durbin's creek. Which is in the east-south-eastern side of Greenville County. East of Simpsonville and near Fountain Inn.

Hope this may help

Nancy,
I appreciate your doing the research for me. I am doing this for a friend. He and I had decided that it was in the Durbin Creek area. He knew that some of the people for, whom he was searching, had lived in the Durbin Creek area.
You are a good detiective and I am glad you are on my team.

Hi Marion,

sorry it's taken me a while to post this. According to federal postal service records, which we have on microfilm here in the South Carolina Room, the Dublin post office in Greenville County was established in 1856. It was located several miles west of Fountain Inn and served (at the time the proposal for a new P.O. was made, in 1856) twenty-two families. The proposal was made by A.C. Jackson. A different set of federal records, also held on microfilm here, shows that the first postmaster of Dublin P.O. was Alexander C. Jackson, beginning 5 August 1856. He was replaced on 31 Dec. 1859 by David R. Anderson, who apparently served until the office was discontinued in September of 1866.
I don't find any indication of why it was named Dublin, but it's quite clearly Dublin and not Durbin. The original settlers of the Fairview district (Pedens, Alexanders and others)were Irish, but that's kindof a stretch. Who knows???

If you have any questions about this or need anything else, don't hesitate to contact me. Best of luck with your research!

Sincerely,
Cori Dulmage
