I am trying to find more info on my 2nd Great-grandfather John H. Dill, whom was born 2 May 1843 in the upstate of SC (we think
Greenville County) and died 19 Dec 1928 in Hendersonville, NC. He is buried at Ebenezer
Baptist Church, Hendersonville, NC.
He may have had a previous wife in the
Greenville area, but the wife I know of was Rachael
Johnson (1855 - 27 Sep 1932) of
Henderson County, NC. They had Thomas James
Dill (25 Jul 1875 - 28 Sep 1945), Henry,
Lilly Dill, William
Jackson Dill, and Charles
Dill.
Thomas James
Dill married Mary Susan
Brevard (20 Nov 1883 - 10 Oct 1967), daughter of David Franklin
Brevard (1854 - 1919) and Jane R. Merrell (1858 - 1887).
I have reason to believe that his father was
Garison Reynolds Dill (28 Dec 1819 - Abt. 1869) and his mother to be Louisa Eliza
Davis (1818 - Aft. 1870), both of
Greenville County, SC.
If that is correct, then his siblings would have been William
Jackson Dill (1847 - Aft. 1860), Thomas
Garson Dill (12 Jan 1850 - 16 Feb 1913), and Nancy Jane
Dill (B. Abt. 1851).
John H. Dill's death cert states "don't know" for both mother and father, though it does state he was born in SC. His obit in the Times
News of Hendersonville, NC states that he indeed was a Confederate Soldier, a farmer, and a member of
Balfour Baptist Church.
I am looking for any and all info -- especially John H. Dill's Confederate
Service -- that can be gained about these people, as they are very close family on my mother's side.
