You probably can get that information from the Vicksburg library in Warren County, Mississippi. As far as I know the hospital was a charity hospital, but don't quote me on that! Try emailing Christine Chouccoli at the email of
christin@warren.lib.ms.us
Hope this helps in your research. - Jane

I am from Warren County the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi but I have not lived there in over thirty years.
From what I understand the hospital was there on Openwood Street during the Civil War.
I did find a Julius Kuhn that served during the Civil War that enlisted 26 June 1861 that was struck from the rolls because of illness in 1862 by General order #55. I have no idea if he was part of the Kuhn family or who the hospital is named after tho. He was part of the "Swamp Ranger" of Company I 22 Mississippi Infantry.

I have the info somewhere '''' if I can just find it. As I recall he was a local man who few if any of the people in Vicksburg knew. He went of to New York or Chicago or some major city and became quite wealthy. In his will he stated that his money was to be used to build a hospital in Vicksburg. I will try to find my info and get back to you. You can contact me direct at jawillia6@comcast.net

In today's Vicksburg, Mississippi newspaper " The Vicksburg Post" dated 22 February 2009, there is a photo of Kuhn Memorial Hospital along with information. It is under the "Feature's" tab at top of the page on that paper's site, if you want to view that.
The article states that it was named Kuhn Memorial Hospital in the 1970s, although I can recall it being called that long before then. The article claims that it was a state hospital also, that was a home that was built in the 1830s by A.B. Reading on Openwood Street, which was later purchased by the city and used as a hospital.
Hope this helps in some way.
