3 Waitsburg Girls Die in Collision
--Three Waitsburg girls died in a two-vehicle collision Friday night and a
Burbank man was critically injured.
--The State Patrol identified the dead as Marjorie A. Baker, 18, R.2, Waitsburg; Deborah L. Brown, 18, 90 J Street and Carol
Shively, 18 211 Preston
Ave., Waitsburg.
--Roy
Maag, 44,
Burbank, driver of a pickup truck, was taken to a
Pasco hospital. Attendants Saturday said both legs were broken and he received internal injuris and severe facial lacerations.
--The accident occurred at 7:50 p.m. Friday, 5.7 miles east of
Burbank on Highway 124. Officers from both the
Walla Walla and Kennewick detachments of the Patrol investigated the crash.
--Troopers sad the Waitsburg vehicle, a 1957 sedan, driven by Miss
Baker was traveling west on 124 and the pickup east. They said the sedan apparently failed to negotiate a cruve to the right, crossed the center line and collided head on with the
Maag vehicle.
--Miss
Baker was killed instantly, the two passengers were dead on arrival at a
Pasco hospital. Ambulances from both
Burbank and
Pasco were used.
--Miss
Shively was born Dec. 25, 1951 in
Baker,
Ore., she lived some time in Springfield,
Ore., moving to Waitsburg with her parents in 1968. She attended Waitsburg High School, was a member of the National
Honor Society, and Salutatorian for her graduating clas in 1970. She was a student at the University of
Washington and a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Waitsburg.
--She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Billy
Shively at the home; four brothers, Alan
Shively of Seattle, and Mathew, mark, and Nick
Shively also at the home; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford
Farmer, Sr., of
Baker. Funeral services and interment will be in
Baker.
--Deborah Lynn Brown was born July 22, 1952, in Spokane and moved to Waitsburg with her parents in 1953. She attened Waitsburg High School where she was a member of National
Honor Society,
Rainbow Girls, and active in school affairs. She was presently employed by Birds Eye.
--She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank F. Brown at the home, her twin sister, kathleen, a brother, Douglas, and a sister, Rebecca, all at the home; her grandfather, Glen E. Brown of Waitsburg; and her grandmother, Mrs. Margaret
Allmon of
Dayton, and numerous aunts and uncles.
--Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Waitsburg Christian Church with Rev. Vernon
Smith Officiating. interment will follow in the Waitsburg City Cenetery.
--Miss
Baker, a 1970 graduate of Waitsburg high School was planning on entering the University of
Washington in January.
--The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin P. Baker, she was born Feb. 12, 1952 in
Hardin, Mont. and for the past several months had been employed at Birds Eye in
Walla Walla.
--The
Baker family moved to Waitsburg from
Sweet Home,
Oregon in 1965.
In Waitsburg she was a member of the National
Honor Society, High School Pep Club, Girl
League and the Future Teachers of
America.
--Besides her parents at the home, she is survived by a sister Connie and a brother Jerry, at the home and a number of aunts and uncles.
--Services will be held to concur with hose for Miss Brown, at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the Waitsburg Christian Church with Rev. Vernon
Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Waitsburg City Cemetery.
