Richmond Cty. I am looking for any information on the Rubsam family of the Rubsam Horrmann Brewery. Where did they come from and where did they go. Are any of the descendents still living?

Surnames: Rubsam, Dolan
My great-grandmother was Rita Rubsam Dewey Dolan. I believe her father was the brother of the co-founder of Rubsam & Horrman. She didn't have any children of her own, but she adopted at least a few daughters. She married James Dolan, heir to Dolan Bricks. One of her adopted daughters was my grandmother, whom I never met. She died of lung cancer when my father was 14. I believe my great-grandmother had a couple of sisters who might have had families, but my great-grandmother's heart was so big that instead of bringing in her own children to this world, she adopted less fortunate children already brought in.

My grandmother's name was Nancy Beck. She married Frederick and they had 3 daughters and 1 son. Their son is my father. I also have a sister. Nancy passed away around 1974.

Rita's father was a dock builder and dock laborer in Manhattan and Staten Island. Vital records exist for the marriage of Rita to DOLAN, as well as for her parents.

I cleaned up my post to leave out non-essential details of the living.

Yeah I had known Piels bought them. I'll have to read up on the rest of it. I have acquired over the years some Rubsam & Horrman breweriana, some of which I gifted to my father. I also have a fragment of a Dolan brick.

Rita Rubsam Dolan was my grandmother.

Her father was Joseph Rubsam who married Sarah Dewey. She had two sisters Sadie and Mary; Sadie had a daughter named Dorothy who had a daughter named Denise and I'm not sure about Mary's children.

She married James Dolan in 1933; he was the Chief Engineer of Richmond Memorial Hospital (now Staten Island University Hospital). They took in and raised many children from Catholic Charities; your grandmother Nancy grew up in the house with my mother Mary, the both of them passed away in 1974.

Your father, William (Billy), is my cousin.

Yeah, that's interesting. I just started an ancestry.com account and have been hard at work building a tree. I know that my grandmother's gravestone says Nancy Dolan but that she also went by Anna Marie McCloy at some point. I've known the Popicks and Aunt Anne with whom I share a birthday with. I wasn't familiar with Mary except that someone is buried near my grandmother and Nanny in the Oceanview Cemetery. I couldn't remember whom. Did your mother go by Dolan or by a former surname?
