I cannot say with certainty that the following is your family, but: When Lena
McLane Teed died in 2/22/1901 of pneumonia in
Boston, her birthplace was listed as
Pictou County,
Nova Scotia, and her parents names were given as John
McLane & Margaret
Murray. She is buried at
Cedar Grove Cemetery in
Boston. Anyway when she married Frederick W. Teed, she lists her birthplace as
Nova Scotia and her parents names are Alexander and Margaret. So I am guessing her father's name was John Alexander
McLane. In the 1891 census for
Nova Scotia in the town of
Pictou,
Pictou County is listed a family:spelled
MCLEAN- John A. age 42, born
Scotland, a carpenter. His wife Maggie, age 43, born
Scotland, their children Julia G. age 16, born
Nova Scotia, John age 14, born NS, May age 12, born NS, a son named Lonato? age 11, born NS, and a daughter
Amelia, age 5, born NS
In the 1901 census the couple are again spelled
MCLEAN John A. born 2/10/1848, Margret born 2/23/1845, Julia G born 6/6/1884, Amilia born 5/9/1886,
in 1/7/1904 in New
Glasgow,
Pictou County
Amelia Gordon
MCLEAN, age 19 parents, John, a carpenter and Maggie, marries a George Walter
Rogers,21 a baker, born River John, parents David & Elizabeth.
I feel very strongly that the
Amelia in 1891, 1901, and the marriage are all the same person. Also the parents names of John and/or Alexander and Maggie/Margaret are fairly strong arguments for this being the same family. I am spelling the names exactly as they appear in all entries.
I don't have access to any records in NY, sorry. I hope this helps you. Barbara
