Brian Cemetery-Does anyone have any knowledge of the Brian Cemetery in E. Feliciana
which was located on Evergreen Plantation. I am seeking the burial place of my great
grandfather who married Mary Adeline Brian, who is buried in this cemetery. Any
info will be appreciated.

Thanks for answering Wade. The cemetery I am looking for is the Brian Cemetery on what was the Evergeen Plantation in E. Feliciana. I don't know where my ggrandfather is buried. His first wife was Mary Adeline Brian and she was buried in this cemetery. I thought maybe he might be buried there also. It was just a longshot. We were in E.
Feliciana this spring but couldn't locate his grave. Thanks again. .

Ann,
I am decended through Francis Brian, then his daughter Martha. I have a tree that was written about 1963 and here are the directions to the cemetery written in 1963. "From Mrs. Scott's store, drive north on La 952 1.42 miles, cross Beaver Creek and drive another 2.09 miles to a gravel road and turn left. We turned left again on the first road which was an abandoned weed grown road. The distance was not measured, but it seemed to be approximately 2-3 miles. When the road became impassable, they stopped and a man named Nelson took off through the deep woods and found the cemetery approximately a long city block from the road down what seemed to be a property line." The following markers were found in the cemetery:
Jemima Brian - Died October 8, 1834 aged 72 years

Hannah Brian - Died January 2, 1846 aged 34 yrs, 1 mo. 10 days ( my ggg-grandmother)

Mary Brian - Died November 7, 1841 aged 35 years

Martha E. Brian - Died December 18, 1830 - aged 5 days

Margaret M. Brian - May 25, 1831 aged 2 years

Andrew F. Brian - December 17, 1855 21 years

E M Brian - Died August 23, 1850 24 years

William R. Brian - June 12, 1851 aged 22 years

M A Haygood - Died September 22, 1853 aged 18 years

The next four have not been identified in the family

Alexander Richardson died 1838 - 8 months

Mary Richardson - died November 17, 1852 - 36 years

Dr. Davis Collins - died 1841

John G. Smith

"We understand that Hardy Brian Sr. was also buried there, but we could not ID his grave. However, there were evidence of many other graves.

I hope this helps, Mike Parker

It was willed to my mother by an aunt, whose husband, an uncle, Milton Chance, put it in her lap when she, as a little girl, attended her Aunt Nina's funeral......The Chance's married into the family twice. Ann,
I have a good deal of information on the BRIAN family and also their connection to the HARRELL family. I am no longer doing any research on those families, but if you wish I can e-mail you my complete file on either one or both of the families.

Thanks for your information. I was mainly interested in Mary Adeline Brian Haygood
who was the first wife of my great grandfather James W. Haygood. The mother of James W. Haygood, with whom she lived after her hushand died, was Mary J. Collins. Maybe there is some connection between her and Dr, Davis Collins. Thanks again.

The Dr. Davis Collins in the Brian Cemetery was from Mississippi. He was the preacher. His headstone says, "Our preacher, Dr. Davis Collins, d. Oct. 2, 1840, age 71 yrs. He preached the Gospel to fallen man for fifty two years." This cemetery is just up the road from my house, it's way back in the woods off of dirt roads, and I took a co-worker/long lost relative of Dr. Collins there about 5 years ago and got a good case of the red bugs to prove it.

I am a descendant of Reverend Davis Collins and about two years ago tried without success to locate the cemetery where he is buried. I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge of the location of this cemetery. Davis Collins began his ministry in SC probably around 1790 before moving to Marion County MS around 1815. He was also a medical doctor. Petitions signed by numerous residents of Marion and surrounding counties of south MS were submitted to the legislature requesting that he be permitted to practice medicine in that area after he failed the new State licensing examination. At the time of his death he was pastor of First Baptist Church of Jackson, LA. He was a son of Lewis Collins who was a Baptist minister in SC perhaps as early as the 1770s. I look forward to hearing from anyone who can assist me with locating the Brian Cemetery.

Gregory,

You wouldn't happen to be of the Mississipi Prices would you? Any kin to the late, and most wonderful, Sheila Price Boyd?

The reason I ask is, Sheila was a friend of mine and she was looking for this ancestor in the Brian Cemetery years ago. I found it one afternoon and called her and we went up there and got a good case of red bugs! It is very hard to find, even knowing where it is, it is just up the road from my house off of Hwy 952, between Jackson & Wilson, LA. If you'd like I could attempt to draw you a map or give you directions. Best bet would be to wait until it's VERY cold - snakes are huge and roaming right now in my area and the cemetery is right in the middle of some hunting leases. If you decide to go now - wear orange!!

You can email me directly at mbourgoyne@bellsouth.net

Happy searching,
Miranda
