I am looking for any information on the William and Mary Wood families. They had a daughter Vietta Wood b. 1900, and a son Thomas Wood b 1903. They may have adopted a daughter older than these two named Elizabeth Jane Wood born 1874. Not sure if she is biological daughter or adopted. Elizabeth married Dennis Bail. They lived around Meigs Co. Elizabeth Wood was my grandmother. She divorced Dennis and moved to Minnesota and married a Collins there. I would greatly appreciate any help as her lineage has been a mystery to the family. One aunt said she was adopted and her parents were native American. Would really like to find out the truth of this.

I saw this one and wondered about it. Can't figure out why she would be living there if she had parents named Wood at the time. I know when I found the family William and Mary Wood Vietta on here was 10 and Thomas was 7 but no memtion of Elizabeth. It is very curious. In this her name is mentioned as Elizabeth Wood and she is a granddaughter to Elizabeth Hamilton. I wonder if her mother died(Mrs. Hamilton's daughter and then her father married Mary thus starting a new . At that time Elizabeth would have been married to Dennis.

This can be very confusing! I am from a Wood family, originally from Nehemiah Wood, Jr. of Gallia county, then my greatgrandparents were in Alexander county and Athens. We have an Elizabeth Wood and a Thomas, but not the same dates.I know that there is a more recent Wood family in Athens that are no relation to me. There is an old Wood family that went from Va. to Marietta in the early 1800s.Try a couple of different census reports and track ages, as that may help to distinquish which family is the right one, as well as who sibs and parents are.
