I'm looking for information on one of my Great-grandfather Jose Teofilo Sierra's brothers. He name was Mariano Sierra, believed to born in San Eli - no Baptizmal record found yet. Is buried in Socorro next to his father-in-law and wife Mariana Cortes-Sierra. Mariano was elected mayor of Socorro in 1897.

My name is Maria Najera Smith. My great grandfather on my Dad's side was Mariano Sierra, his wife was Mariana. My Dad's mother was Guadalupe Cortes Sierra Najera. Yes, my great grandfather was mayor of Socorro and I've heard relatives say his brother was a sheriff. My mother has a photo which shows both Mariano and his wife Mariana and my grandmother and a sibling of hers. My second cousins in Northern California know a lot more about the family history and even own my great uncle's desk which is a family heirloom. My Dad who passed away 9 years ago was very fond of his grandparents and every time one of his children were to be born he tried to convince my mother to names us after them. I came the closest, with the name, Maria, a compromise between my Father and Mother.

!!Feliz Navidad!! This is cool. You're the first prima from Mariano's familia I've "met". It would be great to get to know you. My great-grandfather was Jose Teofilo and he was married 2 times and had a daughter by a "girlfriend" in between his 2 marriages. As far as I know Mariano was the only "politico" in the family. I found a Jose Sierra serving as Constable for Dona Ana County in New Mexico in the Rio Grande Republican newspaper for 7-17-1896, but I'm not sure if this my Great-grandfather or not as we don't know much about the Sierra side of the familia. I'm wondering who the Sheriff is.
