Hello--

Please see the attached photo. I am not sure that it is actually from a uniform, but I thought the stars on the vest might be part of a uniform - possibly in upstate New York (mid-late 1800s) or Canada (Ontario or Quebec).

Would anyone know if this vest is part of a uniform and if so from what period?

I'm certain it is not any part of a military uniform.

Do you not think the "stars" look more like stylised maple leaves?

I agree with Jeff on the previous post. Men's waistcoats (vests) were frequently quite flamboyant in decoration during the 19th century. There is nothing about this that suggests a uniform to me, and I have a lot of experience with pre-20th century uniforms.

Thank you both for the quick response. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part that it might be part of a uniform. The leaf idea is a good one - I will investigate that further.
