Anybody have Murphy ancestors in Alabama/Southeastern U.S.? I'm looking for John Murphy, born 1836 in Ireland, or his son, also named John, who married Georgeanne Taylor. Children: James Arthur, Oscar, Manley, Will, and Pearl. James Arthur Murphy was born October 17, 1888, and was married to Elizabeth Ora Moore, born 2/3/1894.

My grandmother died in Rainsville, AL , DeKalb County. I was not born when she passed away.. Her maiden name was Hattie Murphy before marrying Thomas J. Pope 111 (my grandfarther). They were married in 1893.
Many years ago I was told she was born in NC.

My gggrandmother's name was Louisa Murphy. She was born March 25, 1832 in AL and died December 7, 1891 in Neshoba Co., MS. I have no other information on her and can't seem to find anything. My mother said she heard she was born in NC, but I can't prove that. She married John Anderson Herrington in 1885.

My husband's biological father was named
John Parker Murphy of Greene County, Ala.,
born in 1870. His grandfather's name was
Parker Murphy of Ala., and his grandmother's
name was Thetney Ann Richardson also of
Ala. I am doing some research for my husband
on his father and that side of the family.

My great grandfather (Irish) born mid 1850-early 1900, I think from the Tennessee area, married Luticey. Will Henry had a relative named Blam (half brother?) Had three children, Calbert,Electa, Philip Jordan (PJ).

I have a Murphy family that moved to Titus Co. TX from
McNairy Co. TN in 1847. Spouse Mary A. Eidson, three

I just ran across your message. I have reason to believe that some of my Murphy relatives go back to one of two areas in Alabama. Limestone Co. Area, or, the Chambers Co. area.I strongly suspect the latter, but no confirmation yet. My Grandmother's name was Maggie Eliza Murphy. Her Mom and Dad was Nathaniel M. Murphy and Dove Eddy Quillin. Nathan's Mom and Dad were Will Murphy and Costly? Cosley? Nathan and Dove moved from Ala. to Tex around 1887

Not sure I can help, the only marriage that Nathan had, that I am aware of, was to Dove Eddy or Dovettie Quillin in Alabama. I have a reference to Dove having a previous marriage to a Dolph Henderson, and one child named Claude. Close as I can tell that might have heen around 1880. According to what I have Nathan and Dove had two childeren in Alabama before they moved to Texas in around 1887. Where they had eight more, the last being in 1906. Keep in touch and happy hunting.
