I found this newspaper clipping dated June 3rd, 1945 in my grandmothers momentos and thought maybe it could help someone. "T.G. Haskett died while being held by Japs" Mrs Dora Petrie, 721 West Tenth Ave received a letter from General MacArthur Friday, informing her that her son, Cpl. Thomas G. Haskett, died while a prisoner of war of the Japanese following the fall of Bataan and Corregidor. The clipping goes onto to say that Corporal Haskett was born April 6, 1915, and was reared in and near Stillwater Oklahoma (Payne county) He entered the army in 1938 in California. He served three years then was sent to his base in Manila. His mother had not heard directly from him since the Japanese invasion of the Phillipine Islands. He has been listed as missing in action. Haskett's father, Jim Haskett makes his home in California. He is also survived by two brothers, Guy Haskett of Vallejo, Calif. and Walter Haskett of Rodeo, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs Roy Edwards and Mrs Eldon Sims, both of Stillwater. There is more and a picture of him in the article. I would like to know if he was family to my grandmother, Janie (Davis) Givens who lived Payne county Oklahoma from 1905 to 1945.

Thank you Shirley for your response. Do you know the parents names for Dora? I am just trying to figure out how she and her son were related (if they were) to my grandmother. I see some surnames of JOHNSON and DAY. I know of lines of Henry Day or Ezra Johnson from Douglas county Missouri. Any connections there?Thank you for any help.Janie

We have searched our records and can not find Janie Davis Givens in our records but Dora's mother was Henrietta Wilson and she married first Samuel M. Johnson (Dora's Father, second husband was James Haskett. Henrietta and James Haskett moved from Oklahoma to Clayton, New Mexico and Henrietta died while they were in Clayton, New Mexico. Dora married James Haskett's son also James Haskett but evidently divorced him and later married George Petrie. Dora's sister Grace married Joe Day and they lived in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Mrs. Roy Edwards listed in the Obit was Alma Haskett, Dora's daughter and Mrs. Eldon Sims was Thelma Haskett, Dora's daughter. Maybe there is a connection there. Maybe there is not connection but we will continue to search our old records and reply if we find something. Thank you, Shirley

Hello, I am Alma Haskett Edwards granddaughter. My mother and her siblings said the story they were told was James Franklin Haskett up and disserted Dora and the children during the Depression. He was supposedly to go to California for more work. That was what I was told. When he didn't return, Dora married George Petrie and he raised Grandma and her siblings as if they were his own. You can check my family listing for Grandma and her siblings birth and death dates. I have also posted pictures. falley@ruraltel.net Lynda Howard Falley
