FTM 2011 - Nothing in search result detail window
I am using FTM 2011. About mid-morning yesterday, my Search Result Detail window (in the Web Search tab) stopped working. I figured I needed to reboot (I have to reboot frequently when running FTM), but that did not help.
If I have a screen of Ancestry search results in the main window of the Web Search tab, those results do not appear in the Search Result Detail (lower right) pane. This is true whether I click on a green hint leaf, use the "new search" button in the Web Search tab, or manually paste a URL into the address bar. Clicking on any of the records results in nothing going into Search Result Detail, thus I can't merge anything.
The one exception to this is when I click on a green leaf and a user-submitted Family Tree is amongst the results. The family trees will appear in Search result detail, but none of ancestry's records will.
I'm wondering if something about the format of ancestry's pages changed so that the software no longer recognizes the records as valid - the software seems to be perceiving the pages as plain text.
I've looked through various settings (first wondered if I had inadvertantly turned something off) but don't see anything that looks relevant.
I'm curious if anyone else is seeing this. I did submit a problem report (haven't heard anything). The software is nearly unusable for me until this is fixed ....

Re: FTM 2011 - Nothing in search result detail window
Hi Russ,
My web dashboard shows various subheadings: Ancestry/Ancestry Trees/Ancestry Community/Member Connect Activity/Ancestry Twitter Feed/Links
with detail under each heading. It all looks as it normally does. Let me know if you want full detail there.

Re: FTM 2011 - Nothing in search result detail window
Gretchen,
Thank you.
When Jeff and yourself posted the two messages about this issue, I wanted to see if I could duplicate the problem. I thought I saw something, but here is what I did. Please give it a try.
Click on File, Go Off Line.
Check the Web Dashboard. It should say No Internet Connection.
Now, click on File, Go Online. The Web Dashboard should be normal as you just reported.
Then, please do a Web Search, from within Family Tree Maker and report any issues that you see.
Thank you,
Russ

Re: FTM 2011 - Nothing in search result detail window
Interesting - my issues started yesterday, probably around 10am Mountain time, give or take an hour.
I, too, have experimented w/both old and new search and have seen the problem w/both.

Nothing in search result detail window - same problem using FTM 2008
I feel for you, Gretchen, as I am experiencing the same problem only I'm using FTM 2008. It had been "iffy" for the last several days but I could usually just hit "refresh" and it would bring in the information. Yesterday nothing I try brings the info into the search result detail window and it continues to be a problem into today.
For those that are trying to help, I have tried the following:
Using FTM 2008, ver 17.0.0.965, using a Canada Only Membership - on Vista 32 bit, cable modem direct connection (ie not wireless), browser IE 8, ver 8.0.6001.18975
1. I have compacted the file - nothing changed
2. I added *.ancestry.ca and *.ancestry.com to my Trusted Sites on both my Security Software (which is Shaw Secure) and under the IE security options.
3. I have cleared my temporary files cache (several times - as I try new things)
4. I have used both the new search and old search options
5. I have reinstalled FTM 2008, run repair, run the patch and re-registered the software.
6. I have turned off my Security Software
7. I have changed from IE 8 to IE 7 (although I have been running IE 8 for a long time with no problems before this, and have since reinstalled IE 8 as it didn't fix the issue)
8. I have logged off (within FTM 2008) and logged back on.
9. While using IE 8 I changed the settings under Options, Compatibility View Settings to display all websites in Compatibility View
10. I installed Mozilla Firefox ver 3 browser but when I tried to click on a link I received a 500(?) connection error (not sure what precise error message was now.)
I have basically tried everything I can think of and all suggestions I can find on the Ancestry Help section. None of these made any difference whatsoever.
I have attached three screen captures of different things I am seeing. Usually I only get Screen One but infrequently, Screen Two or Screen Three will pop up.
I have put a support request in yesterday but not holding my breath on hearing back from them in a timely (or helpful) manner based on previous requests.
If anyone does stumble across the fix, please share! :-)
