Catholic Emigration from Maryland to Kentucky - About 1785

Surnames: HAYDEN - LEE - SMITH - MCATEE - FRENCH
One of the "league" of Catholic families that made this migration was the HAYDEN Family, specifically Basil Hayden. In an article named "The Centenary of Catholicity in Kentucky" written by the Honorable Ben J. Webb, it states that a friend of Basil HAYDEN was a gentleman by the name of Philmer (Philip) LEE. They lived on adjoining farms in the Pottinger's Creek, Kentucky area. Basil stated that Mr. Lee kept a meticulous diary dated 1735 through at least 1786 (and perhaps longer).

I am trying to locate a copy of this diary as it allegedly contains information on the SMITH – FRENCH & MCATEE families that I am researching. Any information on how to access Lee’s Diary would be greatly appreciated.

If you find a copy of Lee's Diary, please let us know. He also mentions the Browns quite a bit. I think that a lot of us would benefit from this book.Thanks.

Thank you. Come to think of it, there might be something at the Filson Historical Societh in Louisville. I will check there tomorrow. Might get lucky!

I am still very interested if someone finds the bible. Besides BROWN, I am looking at the surnames, DRURY, FRENCH and REYNOLDS. I know there are more but these are the 4 main surnames.
Thanks!

I would be very interested in this book also as my 4th greats are Bernard Smith & Ann Drury from Maryland. I am trying to find out when they left Maryland and how long or if they stayed in Kentucky and where their son James Joseph was born? They all ended up in Perry County, Missouri. Bernard and Ann were one of the families who established the Catholic Church which is in St Marys, Missouri today. I have purchased books that have much information also. They are listed as receiving land grants as a result of the Louisiana Purchase.
If you would like more information leT me know.
My surnames (mainly greats) are: SMITH MILES MANNING TUCKER SIMMS DRURY LAYTON HAYDEN CARPENTER and many more.

Have a nice day!

Have you seen the book by Timothy O'Rourke? "Maryland Catholics on the Frontier"? Large book. It has a lot about the Perry County Missouri Catholics from Kentucky. Also I think there is going to be a reunion of the descendants of those who migrated from Maryland to Kentucky and beyond in 2012. Check out the site: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mdkyre/ for more information.
