My great grandparents on my Dad's side have the Hernandez surname. They would have moved to Cuba about the same time as yours. I wonder if there is any relation. My great grandparents on my grandfathers side were Isaac Gonzalez Hernandez and Sebastiana Hernandez Medina. On my grandmothers side my great grandmother was Andrea Hernandez. It's my understanding my grandparents were some how related. They originally came from La Palma in the Canary Islands. My grandparents were Rafael Gonzalez Hernandez and Maria Medina Hernandez, both born in Cuba.

Looking for information on Jose Salgado born circa 1840 in Cuba. His wife was Rosario PEDRINO. They were married in Cuba. They moved to Key West, FL by 1874 when my wife's great-grandfather, Mateo Salgado, was born. Hope someone has data regarding this family.

Dear Martha:

My grandmother's dad on my mother's side came to Cuba from Islas Canarias by the end of last century. His name was Rafael Hernandez. According to my uncle, all the Hernandez from there are related because they all originated from a settler who was an envoy from the Spanish King and who happened to be also nobility. I do not know if this is a fact, but I am going to research it. Have you heard that story before? Do you know anybody in Canarias by that name? GRACIAS.

Rodriguez

My grandfather's brother was named Rafael. He came from Cuba to Tampa about 1898 (?). We think they orginally came from the Canary Islands. Could this Rafael be your great grandfather? What is your grandmother's name?

My grandmother's name was Maria Medina Hernandez. My father has pasted away and my aunt has alzheimer's, so I have no one to ask any information about the family. My dad was the eldest of the children so he would have know the most. From my father's birth certificate I know that my grandfather's parents were Issac Gonzalez Hernandez and Sebastiana Hernandez Medina. On my grandmother's side her mother was Andrea Hernandez. I've also been told by my Mom that my grandfather and grandmother were somehow related, cousins perhaps, but that has never been confirmed. I hope this all helps.

My mothers maiden name is Salgado. Her father was Jose Sauturnino Salgado and he was born in Bayamo, Cuba in 1903. I read your posting and I do not know if you have ever been to Key West but you may find it interesting and helpful to know that there is a Salgado Brothers Grocery that is still in business there. I am sorry, I do not know the address or phone number, but I have talked to the staff. Hope this leads somewhere.
