Key to ranks in German World War I Casualty Lists? Location of Gut Rosenthal b. Pelplin?

Does anyone know where to find a key to abbreviations for the German World War I casualty lists? I'm specifically looking for what the rank at the beginning of the example below is. The individual was in "Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 212". I've transcribed his entry as follows (image snippet below in case I've goofed on reading the Fraktur):

Oblt. a. D. u. Adj. Walter Otto Henning Trentepohl (Stab des III. Batls.) — Gut Rosenthal b. Pelplin — leicht verwundet (siehe B. Z. Nr. 130)

I recognize "Oblt." as "Oberleutnant", but don't know what the "a. D. u. Adj." part means.

Also, I take "Gut Rosenthal b. Pelplin" to be a place of birth. If that's right, can anyone confirm if it's present-day Rożental, Poland (Google map link: http://maps.google.com/maps?z=9&q=53.9167,18.7000+%28Ro%...)

a.D. is normally "außer Dienst" = retired
Adj. schould be "Adjutant"

You are right. Pelplin was part of Dirschau county, Tczew today.

W. O. H. Trentepohl lived in Rosenthal, maybe he was born there too.

Thank you.

If außer Dienst means retired, and considering this was a reserve infantry, would this maybe be an older man? I'm trying to track a Walter Trentepohl, born in Gut Rosenthal. In 1916 he would have been about 30, which doesn't necessarily fit my idea of retired.

"Außer Dienst"

"Außer Dienst" means off duty, off-guard, off service, out of service, out of commission

Would you happen to know why the database does not include the year 1918?
