Voses in UK?

Carole Varga nee Vose  (View posts) Posted: 25 Sep 2000 1:07PM GMT
I have just arrived at this site and note that all Voses mentioned so far seem to be in the U.S.
I am a Vose (now married and changed my name) and live in the UK. My fathers family also live in the UK - mainly Liverpool and one of his brothers emigrated to Australia along time ago.

My great-great grandmother was named Elizabeth Vose; she married Thomas Tasker in 1836 in Leyland, Lancashire, Eng. My great-great-grandfather, Thomas, was the son of a John Tasker and Elizabeth Tasker. Thomas and his brother, William, immigrated to the US in 1850. Thomas brought Elizabeth and his children to the US in 1852. I have found some information that they may have lived in Chorley or Liverpool. Thomas and Elizabeth are both buried in Steuben County, State of Indiana, USA. This is a farming community in the Midwest, about 3 hours south of Chicago. If you have any information on Elizabeth or her family, I would be most interested. Thank you.

I am fascinated by your reply, especially when you mentioned Chorley/Liverpool.
I don't know much at all about my family history but my Father was born in Liverpool in 1948. His father was John Vose but I don't know where he was born etc. I can ask my Father for information if this helps. Let me know what you'd like to know.

Regards
Carole

Anything at all that you can learn. I hope to get enough solid information so that in a couple of years I can visit the homeland of my ancestors.

Have you gotten any information on family history from your father? I found some information on the 'net that Vose is a derivation of Early French name of Vaux, a district in Normandy. Harold deVaux crossed over to England at the time of the Norman Conquest. The earliest traceable ancestor is Robert Vose (1599-1683) born in Garston, Lancashire, England. Descendants came to America possibly as early as 1625. Let me know what you find out please. Thanks.

My line comes down from Copelands. Right now I am working on Ebenezer Vose and all the Voses in the Waldo County, Maine area. I have a good skeleton, but am looking for family story/pictures to "flesh it out."
