I'm looking for info on John w. Wortham born in Tn,lived in Texas. Married Minnie or Mamie I'm not sure They were married in 1877.They had 3 children Fannie(another name Tonnie,Tawnie) july 10,1895 in Belton,bell county Tx,Alice 1896 and Alfred 1899. Thank you for the information on the Wortham family. My mother was Lillian Lucille Smithson,or as the census has Lucie L. Smithson.Her mother was Fannie,(Tawnie,Tonnie)Wortham Smithson. There were 2 more children in the family Claude Edward Smithson September 29 1931,Lois Jean Smithson,May 25,1934. Tonnie died December 28,1934. All of the children are now deceased. Would it be possible to get a birth certifacte for Tonnie Smithson?

Texas legislature passed law in 1903 to start filing birth and death records. Birth's in 1890's would be recorded at county level if at all. Even after the law was passed compliance wasn't enforced until years later.

Cecil C Smithson's birth record just listed as infant of Luther Smithson and mother is not mentioned. That was in 1913. Ruby May Smithson shows her name but not the parents. I rechecked, in Navarro Co in 1919. These records give you a timeframe of where they were as well as Luther's WW I Draft card in Purdon, Navarro Co in 1917-1918

Even with this information I still did not find the Wortham's in 1910 census in Navarro or Ellis Counties show up in Tarrant county in 1920. I found no connection to Bell county on the Wortham's.

This form will also give more information on where Alfred James Wortham was when he filed the application. It would also confirm that she was a Marsh as the California death index indicates.
