Hi all, I have a Margaret Mair born 1801 Tarbolton and her parents are John Mair and Janet Howie married in Kilwinning 1788. I believe Janet's parents to be James Howie & Elisabeth Cuninghame.
Andrew Dean was the illegitamate child of Andrew Dean and Margaret Mair born Kilwinning 1820. Margaret later married a William Logan. Andrew's death certificate lists his mother as Margaret Muir. His birth record indicates Margaret Mair.
Margaret Logan Mair's death certificate in 1868 lists the informant as Andrew Dean (her son)so I am pretty confident I have the correct person. I have visited the Howie website but cannot see a connection. Has anyone this family?

Dear Jackie - Your information on Margaret Mair was so very close to that of my great-great-great grandmother that I felt compelled to reply, although by all indications they are not the same person. My Margaret Mair was born to John Mair and Janet (maiden name unknown). She was born in or around Tarbolton on 5 Feb 1801. But she married Allan Stevenson in 1828 and bore him eight children. Although I suppose she could have had an earlier relationship/child and even an earlier spouse (Mr. Logan), my Margaret Mair died in 1875, which does not match your death certificate. Therefore, I am writing to ask if your Margaret's documentation mentions either Crofthead Farm or Lady Yard Farm? Also, there is a gentleman, Robbie Wilson, who has an extensive Mair family tree on rootsweb. Perhaps there is some connection (my Margaret Mair is in Robbie WIlson's tree). Let me know if you find a connection! Please feel free to e-mail me.
