Hi,

This is a long shot but I noticed your mention of Carlstadt and I believe it to be a small area... my Great grandparents, Friedericka and Andreas Waldmann raised their children there @ 1870> 1904... I believe they lived on Hackensack street and Andreas was a barber... any thoughts????
Appreciate a reply... Dave

It is unfortunate that John Mahlbacher III died before I could respond to his query. I have researched the Mahlbachers back to 1844 in Konstanz, Germany. Meinrad Mahlbacher immigrated to the U.S. around 1870 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen on October 21, 1880. Meinrad was a shoemaker who arrived in Wood Ridge, NJ about 1888. He spent the rest of his life in Wood Ridge. Meinrad's son, John Adam, was born in New York City on October 31, 1873. He also lived in Wood Ridge. In 1921 he tragically died in NYC, where he manufactured pianos. John Adam, Jr. was born in Wood Ridge in 1900, and moved to Carlstadt between 1930-1934. I would be happy to answer more extensively. Meinrad md. Agatha Keller; John Adam md. Mary Schmidt; John Adam Jr. md. Dorothy Florench Phillips
