Mary Ann Newberry homestead on the N.W. 1/4 of Section 28, Twp 19, Range 10, W2. The letter advising her that the patent had been granted was address to her at Chickney, N.W.T. Can someone please tell me where Chickney was. I can not find it on any of the Twp lists I have found.

Also, her son homestead on the S.E. 1/4 of Section 18, Twp 22, range 17 W2 and his letter was addressed to him at Loon Creek, Assa. Where would that have been located?

I too am doing a homestead search. I have some homestead files that say Chickney as well. My grandmother was born in Lemberg. As far as I can tell, Chickney may have been near Lemberg, Saskatchewan as a highschool there is located in Lemberg on Chickney Ave.

My husband and I were looking up Lemberg on a map and best we can tell, Chickney was between Lemberg and Abernethy (I think). Lemberg is between Yorkton and Melville. Hope that helps.

My Grandma was born in Chickney, and I agree that it was between Lemberg and Abernethy back in the day. Also, Assa. was an abbreviation for Assiniboia, Provisional District NWT.
