I can't remember if I have corresponded with you or not. My ggrandmother was Florence Ellen Fewell/Fuell b. June 3, 1868 d. Feb. 24, 1929 in Coryell County, Texas. She had 2 sibs, Ollie Belle Harmon and Annice Oleana Lacey. Ollie Belle's death cert. shows her mother as Elizabeth Lale and James Fewell, both of Arkansas. Family lore has it that Florence was born out of wedlock. My theory is that Elizabeth Fewell used her mother's maiden name and her father's name as parents to make it look legit. Ever heard of any of these people?

I am a descendant of Zachariah Tayor Fewell and Emaline Smith Fewell of Erin, TN. The information I have shows Zach being born in Edinburg, Johnson County, IN on 1/17/1849 to a Benjamin Fewell. There are several Benjamins in the Johnson Cty, IN area from the time frame. Can you help ID Zach's father and mother possibly?

It is an interesting thing you ask. I have been very curious as to the identity of Taylor Fewell's parents. Though he is not my direct ancestor, I have looked for him out of pure curiosity, it being interesting to me that he would not appear on any of the Fed. Census for Indiana in 1850 or 60, as a child. Also because there have been several inquieries about him from his descendents. I live close to the large Gen. Lib. at BYU in Provo, Utah, and not too far distant from the one in Salt Lake City. When I am there researching again, I will look for the elusive Taylor Fewell.

It has crossed my mind that he might have had a boyhood hero, Zachary Taylor, and changed his name to that at some point. Just an idea, will search for more info.

Thanks for the help with grandpa. It is possible that the family was living in MO or KY during that time frame. My best quess at the right Ben is Benjamin C. and I have him in the Missouri Federal Census in 1850 & 60 in the Tebo township as well as the slave owner schedule in 1860. Additionally, family documents show Zach's father Benjamin enlisting with company A of the 28th Kentucky Volunteers in Louisville, KY on August 25, 1862. If Benjamin C. is Zach's father then I believe Zachariah to be a favored family name. There are several Zachariahs closely related including a Senator from frontier MO. No doubt the Zachariah Taylor was referencing the former President but the spelling of Zachariah follows all through this branch of the Fewell and Wall families. We, Zach's descendants, would be eternally gratefull if you could assist us in finally locking in on his parents.
