Carpenters of Rehoboth, MA
William Carpenter born 1605 in England married to Abigail Briant born 1604 in England. They are my 8th great grandparents. I know they came to America on the Bevis and that William Carpenter born abt 1576 came along with them. My problem is trying to verify his wife. So many trees on ancestry list Susanna Trivilian as his wife. However, her England marriage record says she married Richard Carpenter. Others list Priscilla Bennett and Alice Briant along with Susanna as his wives. Then there are others that list Mary Bath (maybe Batt) as his wife. I found an England marriage record that shows he married Mary Bath. In looking on find grave.com I find that his grandson William Carpenter born in 1631 was married to Priscilla Bennett, although the dates of birth are different. I also have read something where Alice was either William’s sister or cousin. I see only that Mary was his wife. Am I wrong? Does anyone have anything to verify who his wife actually was? This makes me also want to question his children’s names.

Re: Carpenters of Rehoboth, MA
Thanks for the info. I was hoping to go further back but that may not be possible due to trying to verify the information. That web site you sent has a lot of info. There is a lot there that I didn't know. Thanks again.

Re: Carpenters of Rehoboth, MA
Welcome to the club, Molly!
William Carpenter, born 1605, who married Abigail Briant is also my 8th great grandfather. His son, William, born 1631, who married Precilla Benet and later Meriam Saile, is my 7th g grandfather.
Noah, the son of William and Meriam Saile, born 1672 in Rehoboth, is my 6th g grandfather.
And I agree with Terry7858, Eugene Cole Zubrinsky's information seems to me to be the most accurate and most complete.
Unfortunately, there is a great deal of incorrect information on Ancestry.com. Be very careful with any citations of Amos Capenter's work. There are individuals in his work that have been combined that can lead youin the wrong direction.
If you happen to be of the William, William, William, Noah line, let me know and we can maybe compare notes.
And good luck!
PS. In my opinion, you have probably gone back as far as you are going to if, like me, you're looking for proof. The DNA project may eventually help.

PS, the dates can be wrong due to the "old" and "new" calender...

Re: Carpenters of Rehoboth, MA
Thanks for your reply. My line goes from William 1576, William, 1605, John 1626 then Samuel 1666. Looks like our lines separate after William 1605. But hey, we are cousins somewhere along the line. Thanks also for the warning about incorrect information. I have actually found a lot of that. That is one problem I am having with William 1576. Do you have anything on him? Marilyn
