Gibraltar Genealogy Research Websites
I wonder if anyone knows of other good web forums or sites on Gib genealogy.
One where you can enter surnames of ancestors there and search it would be handy.

Re: Gibraltar Genealogy Research Websites
Hi Debbie I know this more than a year later but did you ever find a site like you were looking for? I think an ancestor of mine may have died in Gib and I don't know how or where to look! Many thanks-Sarah

Re: Gibraltar Genealogy Research Websites
Hi Sarah
No, I haven't found any. I got quite a bit of info on my ancestors but went to Gib to get that when I was on holiday in Spain. I've been a few times. There's a big cemetery next to the runway of the airport and my ancestors are buried there. It's huge. It's a really interesting place- Gib.

Re: Gibraltar Genealogy Research Websites
Hi Debbie Thanks for that. I am in the Canaries though going back to England in a few months hopefully, so perhaps I should po to Gib from here if not too expensive. The huge cemetery that you mention, is there like plans or maps of it that could help you locate someone if you don't know the burial details? Regards-Sarah

Re: Gibraltar Genealogy Research Websites
Hope you have some luck. There is a Church of England in Gib, the Cathederal of Holy Trinity. Maybe they have records of christenings. I got a lot of info on my ancestors who lived in Gibraltar from the Church of Scotland there as my Gt Grandfather was from Scotland. His wife was from England through and they married in the Cathederal of Holy Trinity.
There doesn't seem to really be any web site run by anywhere in Gib that has indexes to records or anything. I've been there a couple of times and even the archives office where you can look up the census is very small. Both times I went, I was the only customer in there and someone was searching on the computer for me. They had the old newpapers on a database as well as the census.

Re: Gibraltar Genealogy Research Websites
The Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages in Gibraltar is a good place to contact for certificates of birth. As long as you have some detail they are very helpful and I have had several certificates from them.
I also have had contact with the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and received certificates of baptism or marriage from them.

Thanks for your quick response. I doubt that I would ever be able to go to Gibraltar. It would be exciting just to travel to Europe ( anywhere in Europe). Jill
