I am trying to work on a laptop that I have learned to absolutely hate. I had a whole long good message for this post and it totally disappeared. If it appears, that is the reason it is not complete. I will try again.

My desktop went down and my emails are gone along with some data I had just received.

The person who responeded to this message emailed me. I looked for the person and found this post. I think that we all have the same family.

My Elias Kelly Callahan was born 13 Jun 1853 in Iron Co according to his son in law. He married Nancy Conway Walker 3 Dec 1871. John Walker was her son by a former marriage.

I found a Callahan family in Iron Co in 1860 with a child about Elias' age, but the unreadable name looks like Rhea.

There are one or two Callahans in St Francois Co about that time.

There are some Elias Callahan's in Ohio, but I do not think that they are mine.

Because of the name of Kelly, I thought that he might have come from Crawford Co, but the Kelly's there say no.

Take a look at the children of Elias and Nancy:

Jane Jemima Callahan 10 Sep 1872 [born 9 mo after marri]
Missing children????
Mary Cristell Callahan Mar 1880 [married Jim Vance]
Missing children???
Ida Minnie Callahan 27 Feb 1882
Missing children??
William Arthur Callahan 6 Nov 1887
Missing children??

The oldest child was called Jennie, Mina, etc. The Mary was named after Nancy's sister and mother.

The William comes from Nancy's older brother. Do not know what happened to him.

One of the St Francois families has the mother named something like Jennie. That is the missing info on dead computer. I do not remember the father's name. Have not had time to look up the data on census.

The next responder says that a Nancy wrote to her relative about relatives in Mo and Ca. I think that that is my Nancy. That person has not responded to me yet.

So please look at my data. I may have more info than I show here. I know what happened to Jane as she is my grandmother. I know what happened to Ida. I know some about Arthur, as he was known. Cristell married a Jim Vance and had a baby. There was an aunt Margie Vance, as there is a picture in my mother's album. My mother thought that she had died at eighteen or very young.

Again please look this over.

In my message that disappeared was some info that I failed to include in the second message of mine.

When Jane J Callahan married 23 Dec 1894, her husband took the parents and children to St Francois Co. His new inlaws were in dire straits in Wayne Co.

Wm Arthur went to Montana and then to CA. Both he and his second wife are deceased. I did meet his first wife and children in Montana years ago.

I contacted his work place and told them things to prove who I was. They showed me the scrap of info about where he was born: Greenville, Wayne Co.

I think that Jane may have been born in St Francois Co.

Jane and her husband lived all over St Francois Co due to his work and his land ownings. I was in that area as a child passing through. Later I took my mother to that area to see what we could. No one was interested in family history and though we looked and looked the week we were there, we found nothing. Now I know that people were indeed alive and there was info. Now my mother is gone [today is her death date].

My grandfather was a mining supervisor. He supervised the setting up of new equipment. He might be way out on one of his farms when the mines needed him. A man on horse was sent to find him and ask him to come in. He belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge there and in CA.

I said in my posted message that I may remember more than I have written here if I am asked about something.

Alanna,

I believe you're attempting to respond to the post made by Marcella Ritchie. I'm the one that posted the original obit. Hopefully, she'll also get notification of your reply. I'm just one of a small group of volunteers who have been posting random obits from old St. Francois County newspapers for genealogy purposes. I'm afraid I don't have any further information. If you need any obit lookups in St. Francois County, let me know name and approx. date of death, and I will try to help you out.

B.W.

Wow!

My folks have been in St Francois Co forever and ever.

William and Nancy Jones Downs were in Madison Co or the edge of St Francois Co. before 1840. Nancy's nephew and family came in 1869 to live with them for a while. Then they went to the area of the Iron Mt.

Larkin and Lucretia Watts Jones and several children tried to farm. I have some names of this family that I'd love to see if they died in that area. I have the information on another computer. I will have to get it set up and download the names. That will not be immediately, so I need some hours before I get back to you.

Thank you for your offer, as I have no other way to find these people.

Larkin's son was really something in the lead mining field. He was William Benjamin Jones.

No, my Minnie Callahan was the daughter of James and
Melvina Callahan. James had a brother Elias Callahan. He
married Nancy Walker. They had a daughter names Ida
Minnie who married Joseph Perry. She was born Feb. 27, 1882. Can give you more information on this family if you

would love more information on that family. Joseph Peery is my great grandfather. I have information on when he married Minnie, but did not know her name was Ida Minnie. My dad kept saying his grandmothers name was Ida but could never find anything on her. Thank you.
