Hello,

A distant ancestor of mine was called Jean de la Vigne. He was born in Valenciennes, France, around 1560, and died in Amsterdam, Holland after 1622. He was also an ancestor of David Ackerman, who emigrated to the United States in 1662 and whose line has been studied extensively.

I understand that Jean de la Vigne was a protestant Reverend (a Huguenot?) who moved to Holland to flee religious persecution.

Can anyone tell me more about this surname or the "de la Vigne" family. This surname no longer seems to be in use in France. Perhaps it has changed form?

Thanks!

Lisa

Jean de la Vigne is not an ancestor of David Ackerman but of David's grandson's (Guilian Ackerman) mother (Aeltie Van Laer).

Sorry.

Hi there,
I'm a descendant of a lady called Parisse De La Vigne. She is my oldest known grandmother! She married Jean Rondeau in 1583. They were French huguenot silk weavers from the French/Belge/Dutch borders - but pricipally from Sedan in France.
regards, Ruth

Jean de la Vigne dict (also called) Hochede or Joh. Lavinius came to Amsterdam (Netherlands) - right after the Fall of Antwerp (17/8/1585)->conquered by Catholic Spain - were he was a protestant Reverend untill he died (1622).

In Antwerp (Belgium) he's mentioned as Reverend of the French Church from 1570 (perhaps) untill the Fall of Antwerp (17/8/1585).

Hugenots were Protestants from France.
