Need most reliable up to date early 1600-1700 Va. Elam genealogy

Help! There are so many mistakes & variations of the early 1600-1700 Henrico Co.,Va. Elams on the internet, that I really don't know where to turn to.
Is there anyone out there in the Elam genealogy world, that would know where I might find the most reliable up to date genealogy of those early Henrico Co.,Va. Elams.
I'm especially trying to find the Elam ancestry of Elizabeth Bowman wife of Jeffrey Robertson I. Her mother was Elizabeth Elam wife of John Bowman.
Elizabeth (Elam) Bowman was supposedly the daughter of John, Martin or Robert Elam whose wife was Elizabeth Ann Bolling, & John, Martin or Robert were supposedly sons of Gilbert Elam Jr. b. ca. 1659 Henrico Co.,Va. d. 1697 Henrico Co.,Va. & wife Mary Hatcher
but can't find any reliable sources for any of the above generations. Is there anyone out there who really knows?
Thanks for any help.

Good Morning
I am on the road right now so I don't have the exact name but are you familiar with the book on the Elam family entitled something like from Va to Texas?
It is written by an Elam descendant who is still in Texas. I just bought it and it has quite a bit of info on the early Elam family.
I will be glad to do lookups for you when I get home.
Please replay off list to ensure I get the e-mail promptly as I don't check the list on a regular basis--You can include the response to the list also--I am not trying to protect info--just don't check the list on a regular basis

I am a latecomer to the early Elam history inquiries. I hope this will be read by some one who can enlighten me as to how all the early Elams fit in the genealogy picture. It seems that there may have been several intermarriages that add to the confusion.

Let me try to respond both to you and the 05 post that is just above you on the list.
The Source I am using is *From Virginia to Texas: A History of the Elam Family* by Earl H Elam. By the way Earl is alive and well in Texas with an address of ehelam at cs.com.
I don't know if he has anymore of the books or not.

For Don Maatson's query--
According to the above source
Gilbert Elam (1659-1697) m. Mary Hatcher (1661-1697)
They had 9 children
1. William b 1680
2. Mary b 1682
3. Gilbert III b 1683
4. Robert b 1684
5. Ann
6. Martha b 1686
7. Sarah b.1688
8. Elizabeth b 1690
9. Obedience b. 1692

There are no children listed for William or Mary.

Gilbert III has three children by the first wife and one of them is Elizabeth b. 1703.
He has five children by his second wife Mary(Elizabeth Bolling?) none of which are named Elizabeth.

Robert has 10 children.
His first child is Elizabeth b 1710 who marries a Stratton.

I find no mention of a Bowman in the material that Earl has for the Va Elams.

I can tell you how to get reliable infornation. Familytreedna.com has a new kit which will answer if another researcher takes it and matches you. My husband just got 3 hits on his Elam line. It verified his paper trail in a heartbeat. The kit is not cheap, but it is worth every dime we spent. He is descended from Martin, but from what I see in your post maybe a different one. There are 2 that I know of in SC who came from VA. I'm a happy customer!! You might even be kin to him.

Sorry, but I'm a senior citizen on a very very low income. What genealogy I get has to be free. I'm lucky that I get to do my email & research at my local library which has a subscription to several genealogy websites. Maybe if I just keep waiting another 50 years, like I've already done, someone will help.
Thanks

Maybe someone will provide a "scholarship" for you to get tested. Some of the YDNA projects have a way to help those who can't afford the cost, but this won't help with your search. This is so new and we are all learning as we go. You might watch famiytreedna.com for an opportunity. They do have sales when business is slow, just like other people. I also expect a price drop at some future date. I share your frustration with online postings. Copying is a way of life with no checking. Original source?, who uses those old dusty books? If you haven't found it familysearch.org meets your needs with transcriptions of the originals. There are two new ways to use it: (1) a prototype which you scroll down to on the left of the page (2) a beta version still further down. If you can't find them ask the librarian to help. Best of all - free! Bad part? You get so many hits on the beta. Since you have time, it might be worth a try.

There are a few posters who use originals such as Vickie Elam White, so watch for hers on this list. There are others, but she's one who helped me with excellent info.

Lolene,
Doesn't one have to be in a direct Elam male line to test for dna? The Elam is on my mother' female line back for about 10 or more generations, so rather doubt that I would qualify for dna test. If I want to look at a website to see if my line is listed, then I just type in Familytreedna.com & Familysearch.org, then just type in Elam name I'm interested in, then what will come up? Not familiar with this Prototype & Beta version you speak of. Would have no idea what those are.
I'm familiar with Familysearch.com the Morman site, use it quite frequently, but many times don't find anything.
Thanks for your help tho.
Don

Family finder (new) will test all genetic makeup, not just male. Totally new!

Family search? Talk to the librarian is my best advice. Maybe show this series of posts.
