Believe William and Phebe had another daughter, Lydia. Lydia married Samuel Barnes. Believe I'm a direct descendant. Rachel Willcocks also married Elijah Barnes.

I'll have to dig up info on Willcocks. Seems that I have a line from LDS that goes way back to England.

My husband descends from William & Phebe's daughter, Mary Willcocks, who married James Rhodes. I've been looking for more on Willcocks family & here is what I have so far. William signed marriage bond for his dau. Mary in 1792, his daughter Lydia who m. Samuel Barnes in 1797, and his dau. Rachel who m. Elijah Barnes in 1799. On the 1810 US census of Bardstown, Nelson Co. are Phebe Willcox 45 +, living by herself, Isereal Willcox 26-45, wife same age, 4 sons 0-10 and 1 dau. 10-16 and William Willcox 16-26 living by himself. Also Samuel Barnes & wife (Lydia) and 6 sons and Elijah Barnes and wife (Rachel) and 5 sons, 1 dau. are also in Nelson Co. In nearby Hardin Co. is Ezra Wilcockson 16-26, wife same and 1 son 0-10.
[Note: KY Marriage Records to 1850 show an "Ezriel" [Isreal ?] Wilcockson maried Sarah Friend on Apr. 15, 1794 in Nelson Co. Ky. and that a William Wilcox m. Mary Richmire in 1802 in Nelson Co. These two are probably sons of William Wilcox and Phebe Ashcraft - marriages at about the same time period as their daughters Mary, Lydia and Rachel were married]

On the 1820 US Census Bardstown, Nelson Co. is Isaac Willcox 26-45, 1 male 0-10, 1 f. 16-26 [wife?]. In KY Marriage records before 1850 there is an Isaac Wilcox who marries Nancy Herron in May, 1820, in Nelson Co. before this census - so this is probably these 2 shown on the census.
In nearby Little York, Hardin Co. are:
Izarel "Wilkes" 45+ with wife 5 sons and 2 da.
Ezra Willcoxson 45+ with wife 1 s. 0-10 and 1 d. 10-16. and
Zera Willcockson 26-45 wife same age, 1 d. 10-16.

On the 1830 US Census Bardstown
Zary Willcox 45 + with wife same
Elijah Barnes and Samuel Barnes families also still there

1840 US Census Bardstown
Zerah Willcox age 50-60 wife same [don't have my complete notes for 1840]

1850 US Census Nelson Co.
Zarah Wilcox 67 (b. 1783), farmer, with Ellen Scuggs 35 and Louisa Scuggs 6 in household. Next door is Samuel Barnes 73 [b. Maryland 1777] and M. Barnes female 50 [prob. a dau or second wife].

Willcocks, William 1 male

1788 Nelson Co, Va/Ky tax list of James Rogers
Wilcoks, William 2
Wilcoks, Isre __

This is probably when Ezra became 21 yrs old. He is listed next to Wm on the tax roll & that's usually the way adult sons, living with their father were recorded.

I descend from Samuel & Lydia Wilcox Barnes and am very glad to find another Wilcoch researcher however many ways the last name is spelled.

I descend from Ezra Willcocks/Willcox/Wilcox and his wife Sarah Friend. I am interested in "Trading" information about this family with other researchers. I have traced "5 of the 6 sons of Ezra" thru the 1880 Census.

Hi: Charlie
I have some of your information, which I got from a woman in California and from a Todd that lives in Cedar City , UT.
I haven't worked on genealogy for a while but am kind of getting started again. Richard Mentry was my great grandfather thru Helen Mary Coop, sister to Gladys who married Fred Todd. Not sure what information I might have that you don't but would be glad to help out if I can. I also have an Ashcraft in my wife's line.

I am a direct descendant of Isaac Thawles, father of Jacob Richard Thralls and through his brother Joseph Thralls. Joseph eventually migrated West and North to Vigo Co., Indiana. I believe there are Rhoades (sp?) and Willcox there also.

I am trying to discover who their mother "Joan" was. I do not have a maiden name for her. It is my understanding that she was Catholic and that Isaac converted to marry her and then migrated to Kentucky with one of the Pottinger groups.

The family tie was strained for awhile and then a few other members "Thralls" eventually came to Kentucky also. I have not verified this as of yet.

It seems there were always a few who migrated on and some who stayed back in: Maryland, Kentucky, Indiana and Missouri, where my branch of the family eventually settled.

The surnames provided are those linked with Isaac Thawles children, Jacob Richard and Joseph's siblings. Otherwise the list gets so long.

NOTES FOR WILLIAM WILCOCKS SR.:
From a Biography of Levi Frances Wilcox
"William Wilcox was born in New Jersey, and died at the age of sixty six years, having lived on the same tract of land as that occupied by his family, his death occurring before the memory of our subject. HE HAD FOUR SONS, ONE OF WHOM FOLLOWED DANIEL BOONE TO Kentucky, AND SOON LOST HIS LIFE THERE. Peter Wilcox, the father of William, arrived from England in 1736, and the Elizabethtown Association surveyed to him 400 acres of land in New Jersey. This is shown by the records in the Presbyterian Church at Westfield, N. J. Levi V Wilcox served as Deputy Sheriff in his native state. All of the ancestors or our subject were members of the Methodest Church, and with his grandfather Wilcox, Lorenzo Dow used frequently to stop. The descendants are still living on the family farm, the only living brother of Hulda Crane now residing near Vallisca, Iowa, aged eighty-six years."

( Note: Peter Wilcox-Willcockse did not arrive from England in 1736. Records indicate that he was married in Long Island, N. Y. in 1715. It would seem that if he immagrated from England, it would have been with his family along with his parents. His name does not appear on any ships passenger lists examined by this writer to date. One Wilcox researcher has suggested that Peter may have been born in America.)

The Willcocks and Badgley family cemetery located in the woods of the Deserted Villege, Watchung Reservation, Union County NJ. There are an estimated 24 graves in this little modest cemetery. There are headstones of the three Revolution War Patriots. The original headstone is of John Willcocks who died November 22, 1776. John Willcocks was a member of "Captain Marsh's Light Horse Troop", and was killed defending General George Washington retreat across New Jersey. The following is the historical event in the Revolution of when John Willcox was killed defending our freedom: On November 16, 1776, Fort Washington fell to an overwhelming assault by the British forces who captured over 2,000 American troops. Following the fall of New York City to British occupation, the Continental Army crossed the Hudson River and scaled the Palisades to man the fortifications on the bluffs of Fort Lee.

General Washington, realizing that with the loss of New York's Fort Washington, Fort Lee was of little military value, and made preparations to evacuate his remaining army through New Jersey. An orderly retreat, however, was not in store for the Americans. On November 20, General Cornwallis ferried between 6,000 and 8,000 men across the Hudson River north of Fort Lee. When word of the crossing reached Washington, he ordered the abandonment of Fort Lee and an immediate retreat before his army was cut off and captured by the British. Most of the American supplies and artillery had to be left behind. During these darkest days for the Revolution when it seemed as though the Continental Army could not survive, Thomas Paine, who was in Fort Lee with Washington’s army, wrote the famous words, “These are the times that try men’s souls.” The other Patriots graves, John's brother WILLIAM Willcocks DIED OCTOBER 20, 1800 AFTER SERVING AS JUDGE ADVOCATE IN CHATHAM NJ, FOR REVOLUTIONARY COURT MARTIALS DURING THE WAR. Their cousin Joseph Badgley died in 1785.

William Thralls:
It has been a long time since last corresponded with you about "old William Wilcocks". I have been able to trace his son Ezra to Indiana about 1825; he died there about 1827 according to his probate records.
Ezra and Sarah Friend Wilcocks/Willcox/wilcox had 6 sons; according to the probate (very sketchy records - realy just bits and pieces)- no mention of wife Sarah althought the 1820 Census of Hardinn Co., KY enumerates a 15-20 year female.
The most interesting piece of evidence is a S.A.R. Application #23911 by Thomas Francis Keleher. It gives Ezra's birth date as 1773 and 2 of Ezra's sons said on the 1880 Census that their father (Ezra) was born in New Jersey and their mother (Sarah Friend) was born in PA. My copy of the S.A. R. application has a deposition attached which was narrated by Amanda (Wilcox) Tansey (William's great grandaughter)
It is also interesting to note that Phoebe's Dower Surveys were made 20 & 27 September 1802 - Dower surveys were usually made after husband's death - so I think we can saftely say William died before Sept 1802.
I am sure you have corresponded with Wanda L. (Wilcox) McKay and am sorry to inform you that she passed away 8 May 2009.
Ray Barnes of Kansas has located a "Barnes Family Bible" which gives us a birthdate for Rachel.
