I am seeking info on a Tymony family who, it is said, came to Saline Co, MO ca 1840 from either PA or OH. Francis was an oft used given name.

Hi Carey,

Hope this is who you're looking for:

From the 1850 census Francis Tymony 36 PA, Caroline E
26 MO, 2 year old male (can't read name), Francis M 10 mos
also born in MO, and Ann Terrill 32 MO.

In the 1880 census we have Francis 68, Caroline 55, Francis
28, James 27 and Susie E 23. All children born in MO.
They are living in Higher Monteau, Randolph, MO

From the 1920 census there is Frank M 70, his wife Addie 60
and a daughter 23 (another unreadable name)

Had no luck with other census years.

Carol

Thanks....I had the info you mention, and the "Higher" is actually "Higbee," my hometown that I am writing a history of. Moniteau, of course, is its township in Randolph Co. I'm hoping to connect 'Uncle Frank,' as the old Higbee paper says he was called by everyone, with PA sources. Thanks.

I believe I may have information for you.

My grandmother on my mother's side was
Carrie Tymony (I knew her well). She was born in Higbee, Missouri (Randolph County, Missouri) somewhere near 1889.

Her father was James Buchanan Tymony, who ran drugstores (one in St. Louis for sure). His father, I believe, was Francis Tymony who traveled with Dr. Sappington selling "elixer" or such around Missouri in the mid 1800's.

My brother is the geneologist and is currently in the middle of a move of residence and is unavailable, but if this sounds like the right Tymony family (and I'd guess the name is rare enough that it is) I can get you quite a bit of information on them. The name is Irish (J.B. Tymony was even baptized Roman Catholic, although he didn't continue with the practice) and I recall that we have the records tracing the family line back to Ireland. I believe my ancestors on the Tymony side include the English poet Francis Quarles (1592 - 1644). This could be the reason why "Francis" was a popular name in the family (just a guess).

Anyway, if this sounds right, email me and I'll get in touch with my brother and get a copy of everything we have to you.

Best of luck in your search!

Hi, my name is Mary Theresa Tymony. My grandfather's name was Clifford L. Tymony. He was born in Moberly, Missouri. My father was Clifford L. Tymony II. Everyone from (Clifford) this part of the family lives in Seattle, Washington. My question is, do you know what my great-great grandfather's first name is. I have a picture of him and his family which includes my grandfather when he was twelve years old, but my father's family are all dead and gone except for an aunt. If you are of no relation, then thanks for your time.
