Hi! I am looking for Scislowicz Family members from around the USA to help trace our roots to Poland. Any assistance would be appreciated. My father, Joseph John Scislowicz was from Hooversville PA. His father lived in Ralphton PA and latter Hollsopple PA. Orginally from Noby Targ Poland. I have links to several other Scislowicz family members interested in tracing history. Email me so we can link!!

My great-grandfather Joseph John was born in Nowy Targ, Poland around 1865. This is not the same JJ Scislowicz that is from Holtzapple, PA. My g-gfather came to US with brother John, Valentine and George. John went onto Chicago. Joseph John, Valentine, and George went to Shenandoah, PA and then finally to Hastings, PA. They eventually sent for their families and are all buried there in St Bernard's. Many changed their name to Stislow. Even my g-gparents are listed in the 1910 Census as STISLOW. Other families of Scislowicz I have found to use SISLO, SCISLOW, SISLOW, etc. There are also Scislowski families that used the same americanizations, so be careful. SCISLOWICZ in Polish means, "the exact" or "precise one" or the "short" or "Squatty one".

I am searching for my great-grandparents John Scislowicz and Victoria ? Scislowicz. Both from Krakow Poland. Had a daughter Catherine, also born in Krakow. They lived in Illinois. Catherine married an Alexander (not sure real first name) Klimczak. He was from Warsaw Poland. They divorced she re-married a John Melnick in Michigan and died in 1946. Just before I was born. I am trying to research both families Scislowicz and Klimczak, but keep hitting dead ends. Any help appreciated.

Searching for Scislowicz family members. My great grandfather Andrew supposedly came over from Poland with his 3 brothers after some trouble. He briefly lived in PA, near Scranton, where my grandfather and his brother were born before moving to Chicago. I believe he was born around 1880 and died in 1925.
We use Sistowicz as our name, but have family documents with the Scislowicz spelling. It's easy to see how the l became the t, considering the different alphabets.
I am looking for any connection to the 3 other brothers. We have lost contact with those branches and I am looking to reconnect and continue my search backwards.
Any help or others searching Scislowicz would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the great research links. I will keep searching. Unfortunately, that andreas would be a little too young for my Andrew. He seems to have been born around 1881 and according to the 1920 census, he immigrated in 1900.

You're welcome. He could have come thru Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia or Canada. Any luck there?

I'm seeing scislowiczes coming through those ports, so I'll find him eventually. I just found a death cert for one of his sons (my grandfather's brother) that lists him as the witness and lists nowy tarq as his place of birth (and his wife's), so I feel like I'm getting closer.
Do you know of any good sites to search for the other ports other than here on ancestry?
